I bet that was interesting to drive.

It was a total hoot and a death trap, especially as we kept the gearbox too. We were allowed to do those things in after school CDT clubs the in 80s, before elf and safety beat sense into us!! ;)

Beat us all senseless more like!

Well I've just managed to stumble myself into a massive win. Found a place near work who will let me have free use of their sand blaster, parts washer and press for tea and biscuits. Time to get those parts together ready for more blasting.

New bulkhead made up for me by Andy at ZFM. Hopefully getting fitted soon.

Sooo, having the shell away and not being able to get a lot of work done on the car has left me a lot of time to research parts and plan things out. It's been good week for planning and researching but has led to me looking at doing things I never intended to do until the car was up and running.

I started first by creating a spreadsheet which should of been a simple "keep track of costs". A day later it was a comprehensive part log, all devised into categories, lots of auto updating boxs and hyperlinks to everything. I then created a service log with colour warnings for when various items require sorting. I then thought it would be a great idea to add a to buy/to do list which created my first headache.

As I started planning what I parts I wanted fit a bit of mission creep came into play. Especially with the engine. I had originally decided to keep the engine standard and just fully service it, change all seals and gaskets, timing belt and paint it. That was it. I hadn't wanted to break into the engine and remove the head. Then after talking to a few people it was suggested for the long term health of the engine I should put new piston rings, headgasket and bearings. That way I'd never have to open up the engine again and would be easier whilst the engine isn't fitted to the car. Seemed logical and sensible for an engine with unknown history. Especially as I plan to use the engine as intended.

Then crazy me came out. I was already planning on forging this engine at some point in the future and as I was going to pull the engine apart now and have all the machining done. Why not do it now? Might as well do it properly from the get go rather than pull it apart twice and have to risk scratching paint pulling the engine out.

Damn isolation creating thinking time. [emoji2357]

I'm putting on RB26 throttle bodies but I don't have the air chamber and idle control gubbins. I have the adapter plate and all the other bits fit. What are you doing about the induction side? We are not so far along on the body as you but I've sourced lots of bits..

I had an R33GTR and reshelling the bottom end and water/oil pump was the thing to do at 80K the rest was fine as long as you had a strong ignition system

I'm planning on using a Plazmaman intake manifold and bosch 68mm drive by wire throttle body. I'll be able to eliminate the iacv and have the ecu control the throttle body for good idle.

https://plazmaman.com/product/rb25-r33-and-neo-inlet-manifold-full-billet-runner-6-injector/

Undecided what throttle pedal I'll be using to control it. Either a bosch pedal or maybe a pedal out of an R35. They are cheap enough but I'll have to fabricate a bracket to mount it.

Why do you want to use the 26 intake manifold? It seems either a lot of work on the head or buying an expensive adapter. Not sure if you've seen this thread

already have the adapter from Australia it wasn't that expensive, I think the tread is old compared to using the adapter plate (well I hope it works). Speaking to a couple of people who own skylines GTT they said the single throttle body gave very on/off pedal control. Now they could have not done it well...

As I already have the most of the bits I'm stuck down that path. I was thinking about fly by wire throttle as I have 370Z gearbox that could have auto blipping, the 370Z owners said they switch it off...

decisions decisions, I do have r35 coilpacks and injectors. The R35 coilpacks are worth doing all my RB owning mates say so

I'm doing the cd009 gearbox too. Undecided on what adapter to use. Probably either the Collins or Jim Wolf Technology one.

I'm sticking with a small diameter TB for that exact reason. I don't want that on/off throttle. I should be able to control that with the smaller diameter and electric TB.

Coil packs are next onto my research. Probably either R8 or R35 ones.

on the gearbox you need an RB flywheel and 350/370 clutch. I have deleted the hydraulic clutch engagement in the bellhousing
I'm using collins adapter with CX mounts

Is that with a rb pressure plate? Who did you use to mill the bellhousing down? Was it easy to find somebody to do it?
