I've had a few zeds taken back to metal and repainted. It's a lot of work even without repairs. I supplied totally striped shells that required absolutely no repairs. At southern prices under £5k was a good deal. The workshop costs and labour for 1 man is around £350 per day to cover all the overheads. my shells each took 2 weeks of labour. Not must profit in that when you consider paint and material costs. Add a couple of weeks rust repairs and your at £10k.

I had my car taken back to bare metal, sections replaced in the sills, repairs to both cowls, the cracked dash repaired and the centre console which was in 2 pieces repaired and painted in a lovely metallic blue for £3500

I'd be happy to trailer mine up north and back to get a deal like that!

I’m developing a first hand appreciation for this working on my project. The coming updates to the Dixie thread will underline that. To do it to the level of OCD detail I’m trying for would be £££££.

The great thing is of course that when working on our own cars, the labour is free ...

Well, yes! At this point, that's the only way I can execute my project in anything approaching a timely fashion. And another trip to Disneyworld in August is about to take another bite out my budget!

You need spend time detailing the more time u spend the better it will look

Also some colours need a lot of prep time ie may need finish primer off in 1000 grit instead if 500 grit
