What did you do to your Z this week?

And in the interests of originality it wouldn't of course have come with black and silver plates although I know why you've got them!
Mike, regarding the black/silver plates, your right of course at the time they wouldn't have been legal but since the law changed and they suit the colour of the car I thought why not. I have the original yellow and white plates but they're currently mounted on the garage wall - there if I ever need them . Cheers Paul

Playing devils advocate, but if you like the originality of the 'tie down hooks' shouldn't you also have the period correct plates, despite what the law now allows? ;):p

Ive never seen one of those rear number plate brackets before, my 2+2 certainly never had one, probably fell off with some other rust!

Hi Toopy
I do like originality, but also admire a lot of the modified cars out there. If I was going to do another I'd be more than happy to modify it. I have both sets of plates (black/silver & original yellow/white) in case I want to change them. Similarly I also have a rear spoiler and rear light surround panels painted in the same body colour as opposed to the standard colour currently fitted, like wise I've fitted vented inspection covers on the front but have the original set pre painted if I want it more standard. I like having the option of both. It's like the wheels I guess, sometimes I like to fit the original steel wheels and trims, other times I prefer to fit wolfrace or the minilites currently fitted (thanks to turn & burn).

Finally got my new wheels through, wrapped in fresh R888s and fitted to the car. So glad to get rid of those blingy wheels!!

Next is to get the carbon ZG arches fitted and the proper wing mirrors once they arrive from Japan!

Looking good mate. Will look even better with the carbon. Can't wait until I've got something driveable.

Cheers dude.

Bit by bit its slowly coming together. Undoing all the cheap tacky mods that were done by the PO is time consuming and expensive

Also have to fit the devil shadow front chin I have sitting in the garage.

So the missus let me have a garage day during my time back in the UK so that's a massive win for me in itself, but managed to get the 240z front end conversion.

Very happy with the results especially since we managed to get everything done in a day!

Also got rid of those HIDEOUS cheap tacky wing mirrors and replaced them with proper springy ones. They look so much better!

That front end looks really good. I received the Skillard grille just before Christmas and will hopefully be doing something similar. Have you had any thoughts on the front number plate??

Today I had another go at fixing my non-existent brakes. I’m 99% sure it is the booster at fault so replaced this with another brand new 280ZX booster I sourced from the US. I’m hoping third time lucky but will need to wait for another weekend to fully bleed the brakes and test.

Front end looks great @LiamR, did the same to my 280Z pretty much as soon as I got it. Skillards grill is perfect in my opinion, he also does bumper delete plates which I have fitted onto mine and just cleans things up a little. I'm also partial to his hatch visor and hood vents!

I actually did some work on the Z this weekend! Put new connectors on the injectors as all of them were perished, replaced another 3 perished connectors around the bay alongside the TPS plug.

Took her for the first drive in four months. She’s firing on 5.5 cyls - strongly suspecting electrics with an intermittent miss. Making my own HT leads and cleaning ground strap etc to cure it - but even then, I had forgotten how well she hauls ass and makes things small in the mirror. Loving that engine!

Yeah I have the bumper delete plates too but they dont fit properly with the devil Z front spoiler. It's almost as if the mounting tab bits which would be sandwiched between the delete plates and the headlight buckets are way too short. Had to trim bits away to actually get the front dam to sit right. Pain in the arse fitment.

I'm happy with how its turned out now though to be honest.

Thanks for all the kind words

did you stagger the mirrors?

I had to use the holes that were there from the original cheap mirrors. They were about an inch out I believe from the dimensions I found, think they were 9 inches from the headlight buckets instead of 10 but the previous owner did an equal setup but they will be getting done all over again when I strip the car for the RHD conversion.

I can confirm they actually work though! Amazing to be able to see behind me for the first time ever haha!
