Advice needed on chassis strengthening

I agree and I’m the type of person who learns from others mistakes/trials LOL. Glad I posted this on here, the information and knowledge you guys have is invaluable!

Seam weld main areas, imo avoid the very front, makes it harder to repair should you get a knock, I've only gone as far as the radiator panel.

Extend floor rails to join up with rear frame

Weld in bar beetween rear struts if you are not going for a cage.

Add a bar from the front of the rocker connecting up to the underneath of the outer front wing box frame.
Would you still recommend all of this if the power was around 500hp?

Yes, I would, its an old car and its a lot more HP than it was designed for, putting a lot more stress on the chassis, plus a stiffer car handles better and the slight weight penalty for the work is minimal and offset by weight savings elsewhere plus the massive extra power.


At the very least go with basic stitch welding, bolt on rear strut bar and rocker to wing bars. I'd definitively go further than this though, your at the right stage to do it and you don't want to later regret skipping it. Yes yours is a 260Z so stiffer than a 240Z but you get a lot of folks (mostly in american builds) complaining about chassis flex, you really don't want this.

The first list (as on post #26) would be a perfect setup for me for a car you don't want to go crazy on, could possibly add a half cage to that list but its something I personally wanted to avoid to keep the interior pretty original and keep it more of a sleeper. I am considering one during the rebuild though.


If it were for a car thats going to be spending a lot of time on track or running more than 500hp I'd probably opt for a full cage tied into the front towers and a lot more stitch welding.
