Went up on Thursday with my eldest son Jay. and collected the car; we got very lucky with the weather as it started to rain just as we pushed it into the garage - a good omen I hope!

Yesterday, got it in the air for some further exploratory work. When I initially viewed it, I saw that there was more rust than initially shown - worst parts were the front chassis rails. Although serious, I've read threads where these have been repaired so decided I could take a chance and tackle them.

I spent a lot of time deciding on whether it would be safe to lift the car on the points I chose, given the state of the rails - fortunately they appear to be structurally sound and there was no sign of deformation or creaking when I got the car off the ground. It also survived a fairly aggressive rock test - again with no creaking :thumbs:

This was my verdict last night after yesterday's exploration, a few additions that I've remembered today in red; photos to follow.

Good bits:

Interior is all there and in excellent condition. Nothing missing that I could see. All vinyl trim in good condition, as well as under mats.
Engine runs and sounds good (didn't do a compression or leak down test as I figure I'll refresh it anyway)
All the electrics and gauges work including the clock, lights etc
Suspension and brakes (other than the hydraulics and lines etc) refurbished.
Floor pans, inner sills in great condition
Bulkhead, front wheel arches in good condition
Both "A" and "B" pillars good
Roof good
Wolfrace wheels in good condition with brand new tyres - (in 1991 I think  ) , but they are massive!
Lots of stone chip applied at some time in the past which I genuinely believe has saved the car
New exhaust

Bad bits:

Rear wheel arches totally shot (have new outer arches to fit) Need to research on whats available for the inner rear arches - just the section outboard of the seams
Outer sills shot (have new sills to fit)
Outer doglegs shot and probably the inners too - just how much to be confirmed
Some localized holes in the front chassis rails, where there are triple layers are - hopefully repairable!
External paintwork/body - looks in a very sad condition with lots of rust 'bubbles' - however, I've scrapped a few away with my finger nails and it is only surface rust; certainly not rusting from the inside out.
Passenger side lower front wing section behind the wheel totally shot - and probably the inner section as well
Passenger door outer skin has some rusted holes at the bottom - probably repairable.
Clutch and Brakes not working

Unknown:

Front Air dams - they look good from what I can see, but until I get the wings off I won't know! Fingers crossed.
Condition of gearbox and Diff

Also found a neat key holder which I will be refurbishing

Inside the wheel arches - I scrapped off some of the stone chip and was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the metalwork underneath - very solid EXTRA:)

Some random photos

I think that's all for now. I have taken some of the exterior paintwork, but my Samsung Cloud thingy has thrown its hand in so will need to try and fix it somehow!

Reminds me of mine back in 1989; same colour (underneath), same wheels, same rust.

Good luck and I'm sure she's gone to a very good home - thanks for the photos - lovin' it.

Can we tell it was a steal - how much was it please ?

I've no idea how much it was and have no wish to know. I content myself with guessing it probably wasn't quite as much as it was advertised for.

Looks a great project - all there and just in need of refurbishment. The rust doesn't look as bad as it could by a long way. Time to take stock and sort out exactly how you want to play it ... I'd keep the colour as is but then i find myself leaning much more now towards stock restos. I see your future: Lots of planning, lots of researching, lots of simply enjoying working on it and lots of learning thrown in!

Superb job!

I'm taking a long trip south to Burlsedon next weekend, I might pop round ... !
