I agree John. Again if it was RHD I reckon it would have sold.

Anyone looked at it or know this car?

If it was RHD it'd be another £7k I reckon ... looks very nice from these pics, but like any car, should be seen in person if possible.

If it was a 240z it would have sold.

It needs converting with bumpers/gearbox etc also. Plus the massive holes that would be left.

OK Jason, genuinely interested to know your reasoning behind the statement ' if it was 240Z it would have sold '
Is that something you believe yourself or you think the market/others in general believe ?
Would you yourself have bought a 260Z ? If so, how much cheaper would you expect it to have been ?

Interested as I am currently doing a comprehensive restoration on an RLS30 - although will be converting to RHD which will make it far more attractive to the market and get it over the line for a successful sale.

Agree the advertised car needs smaller bumpers, a 5 speed box, a revised rear diff and those wheels don't look right. They are from later 280Z and pretty sure the 260Z RLS30 never came with those as factory fitment.

The bumpers could be made to look acceptable if the overriders were removed and the bumpers fitted closer to the body. Is that possible without a huge amount of work?

Hi Chris.

I said it as the 240’s seem to sell quicker than any other car, if it’s such a genuine car as described at £20k it’s good value for a ‘240’ etc. Just based on how I see stuff sell and how quickly, maybe mostly with the LHD market.

You must have noticed yourself, also you seem to sort out gearboxes/diffs etc on a lot of your stock which helps it sell.

For me, I wanted a 240z, not a 260z, as simple as that, the extra development that’s gone into the 260z to make it arguably a ‘better’ car just doesn’t appeal as much for no other reason than it’s not a hs30/hls30/240z.

Money wise, it’s almost a none issue as it’s not like the one so don’t really want is 50-% cheaper. same reason I’d like z3m coupe, not a z4m coupe, even though the latter is much improved.

Interesting thought process Jason. I occasionally come across buyers who are the same, they only want a 240Z and nothing else hence my question.

I think if you want one thing, the other has to be a good percentage cheaper to make you think?

It doesn’t mean one is better than the other etc.

Those people that only want a 240Z and nothing else have been brainwashed by the media and haven't actually driven one of each.

Lovely car with the aforementioned mods performed would refine the looks so we're talking of a £25k car all done.....starts to feel expensive especially when most will compare it to the purchase of a 240Z.

Just another proof that the 240Zs need to go up in value to pull the others up behind.

This is sad though :

Imported by my friend and I in July 2018. It took him months to find this example.

First owner registered it new in the very dry state of Arizona and only drove it to 55k miles.

The second owner garaged it and that is where it remained until our acquisition in July.

So basically a flip and at least one previous owner who never enjoyed the car....

Sean, that’s a crock of crap.

It’s got nothing to do with media. I haven’t driven one of each, not many have.

You can’t moan about them ‘flipping’ it happens on here, all over Facebook etc. Are they not an actual business?

Can you try to quantify this post of yours? Can you explain brainwashing?

As far as classic cars go and quite possible quite a lot of other things to. The first of something is generally the most sought after.

Ok

Firstly, we all share our opinions and we all agree/disagree - democracy is great but let's keep it civil mate.

Secondly, I won't 'try', I will quantify - I've always assumed what I've said and written.

Media = previously (before internet) and still the press, blogs and net articles together with worldwide forum snobbery.

Brainwashing = the continued rehash of bigoted journalists of the era writing about the evolution of cars produced to be sold to make profit and highlight the make.

Chris said it well on this thread recently : https://zclub.net/community/index.p...pean-model-pros-cons.25015/page-2#post-286136

It goes something like this, 240z is better than 260Z is better than 280Z is better than 2+2 of any kind is better than a ZX ooooh but hang on, what about the ZX turbo, oh yeah, but I've got an early vented hatch 240Z, ha ha well I've got an earlier vin number, well mine is in the rarest colour, I've got a 432 trumps you all ........... and so it goes on.

The journalists have added the little details in more recently like the early cars as if they've disovered these facts which are oh so important to the earnest classic car collector.

If we take the minor importance (in terms of sales volumes) of the period UK and Euro market, and this is just a general article quote of the most freqently read tosh : 'the 260Z has gained weight, no longer the sports-car the 240Z was and the 280ZX now lardy, bourgoise.....the press only liked the 240Z !

Perhaps I'm lucky then to have driven one of each ? When I became aware of Zs, introduced to one by a 260Z 2+2, I did my homework and looked for a 240Z having joined the club and get advice, opinions before so deciding. If I did the same today, would I choose a 240Z again.......probably not

Flipping : I wasn't aware that the seller is a business and I'm not moaning - better that the car is loved and used here than languishing in some garage collecting dust. I thought it sad that the car was so previously under-used and believed that the current seller brought it over to keep and merely enticed y raising values to make a fast buck.

I remember a neighbour of my parents that dreamt for years of a Jensen CV-8, realised it and I was in awe of this magnificent machine....until less than 6x months later someone offered him more than he paid, he sold it and bought an MGB....I was shocked that his dream could suddenly become worth only so many notes....he didn't need the money either and was always very happy with the car. Whatever...is it clearer for you now as either your intuition is fading (you keep asking for clarifications) or you're building up for a big argument somewhere, sometime.
If I can avoid that, that'd be nice so if you have a beef, PM me and let's move on.

Nice car even if blue isn't my favourite, I'd desperately like people to love all Zs and stop this effing pecking order.

For those obsessed with the 'value' of cars, I can see why they'd want a 280z to be 'valued' the same as a 240z.

I'm in no way building up for a big argument, nothing at all to argue about, i'm always honest and fairly straight about my own position. I ask for clarification as you quote a large post and make a single reply which makes it hard to understand. For example, it looked like you were calling people brainwashed for wanting a particular car.

There always will be a 'pecking' order, for obvious reasons. otherwise i'd be buying a 432r for £20k.

We agree on Blue though :)

Obessed ? Why 'they' want 280Z values the same as 240Zs ? Hardly realistic......are all 911 values the same then ?

What IS important is that as values rise, people take more care of them.

Yep, brainwashed as in 'a 240Z or nothing'....and then they received various shared comments on here by people who actually have the cars and not journalists who've either never sat in one at all or the seat of one 240Z hardly got warm ! To journalists, time is money so if you can copy/rewrite something that has passed before, esepcially if it is a perceived truth ie everything after the 240Z is a lardy, tubby, you'll sell your copy.
Journalists like telling us things that we already believe, clichés are their favourite, as we'll all say - "hey, he's got his head screwed on right - knows what he's talking about...."

The other brainwashed are those that come on and say - guys, I want a *#0Z but it must have at least 300brake, preferably 400. More of 'em that have never driven a decent one.

Are we clear (aside from the blue) now ?:bigears:
