'kin winter

Winter already 'chez toi' ?

My aim is to recover my Z, continue the running-in, pass the French MOT and the definitive max-power rolling road sessions for a Z-filled life again in 2020.

My plan is new valve springs to give my cam an easier life, chamber sizes down to 35/36cc for more compression and ITB EFI for fun. Oh and R32 front brakes so I can brake at the end of straights.
What are you doing Pete?

Did a rolling upgrade (new head and cam, suspension and interior refurb) over the summer. Nothing left to do

So the usual. Wax the cavities, polish it and put it to bed in its bubble. Garage is too cold and damp in the winter to work in. :)

Huw, is there any way you can improve the garage? If I couldn't go in mine over the whole winter, I'd try to change things, if I could.

Now the 944 is fixed, I'll be back on the Z - wither getting my aS* in gear and doing some work on it - finishing the interior, putting the carbs back on etc - or I might be just putting more stuff on the top of it, watching the dust accumulate and doing something else. The former I hope.

It needs a new roof. The garage is a single cinder block, corrugated cement roof affair. It shares the roof with next door as it’s a joint block. I’ve been waiting them to pitch in to share the cost of doing both. Could really do with knocking down and rebuilding to be honest.

Beware asbestos.:D

My garage plan next year is to buy a 20' container, hook it up with electricity, fit a ventilation system, lights etc and store the Z within inside a carcoon. All in should be about £3.5k.

Bet the neighbours will be impressed with that :D

I've just ordered a couple of framed Airflow 'air chambers' to fit in the open fronted car barns.
The sea air down here in coastal Devon is no friend to classic cars over Winter.

Sean baby I changed my garage to a double timber garage for the sti Scooby and the z4 m coupe as I have the room, might be worth a look if you have the room Sean
As for the Z,That stays in the garage joined to the house,it doesn’t get damp in there but I’m still thinking of getting an air chamber
Chris wot ones did you get

Too much money and I want the garage locked up tight.

I might be building a double-car sized shelter on the drive tho.

How much is a container then,I did think about it but the truck would have to lift it over the trees and we would have to shut the lane for a while

Status,

These are the ones that have just arrived.
https://www.airflow-uk.co.uk/product/car-airchamber/

In the garages they are going I only had 2.2m useable width due to oak beam height restrictions at barn entrance so had to go for 'airchamber' which is narrower than Carcoon.
I wanted a framed version so can drive in/out easily for occasional runs out on dry days.
Two boxes on the doorstep today so will post a pic. later in week when I get them up.

I will be ordering a Carcoon as well for another storage area in a couple of weeks and get 15% trade discount on those, so if you are interested in one I can add to the order.
Airflow were tough cookies and I only managed to get a small price reduction and free battery conditioner/chargers thrown in.

Thanks Chris, appreciated...I prefer the carcoon but really like the idea of a framed kit that doesn't deflate...is there a compromise between the two ?

The Carcoon is available as the original 'bubble' type thing or the Veloce which is framed for internal/garage use.
Here is a good video showing how the external version works in the real world and another shows how it copes with high winds. If you know the car is going to be unused for 3 or 4 months would be OK but if you need occasional access/use framed is the way to go.

Sean, you must need a garage for the £30k’s of steering wheels you’ve got!?

if you get condensation, just allow air movement. A nice oak frame if you’re cool

A container will have sufficient height in which to store 'extras'. I could also get a 40' one - it'll fit.

• 20 Pieds : à partir de 1290€ HT
• 40 Pieds : à partir de 1390€ HT

+transport + manutention.
