Parts wanted

When this debate was had a couple of years ago, members felt that too often people would join as forum members, ask for parts, harvest said parts from generous club members to the detriment of other club members (who didn't even realise said parts were available) and dissappear again.
So since it was felt that it was nearly always club members who had the desirable parts then it would make sense to make it a benefit to restrict wanted ads to club members.

Is that why I can't post a wanted ad then ?

I did put up one for a front cross member a while back to look at a power steering conversion,

I haven't renewed my membership for a few years to be honest, I do need to do it as I could do with a valuation for insurance now the prices have gone up,

I have also noticed that when people do ask for parts they miraculously turn up on eBay within a few day's sometimes though.

We all know how rare some of these parts are these days and perhaps that is why people want to keep them , they may go up in value or needed as a spare, but saying that , I have been helped out by people on this forum with parts i have asked for and needed for my Z's , In turn I have also helped other members out ,

I have also helped by lending parts to test a problem and then taking a few years to get it back because they have disappeared from the forum,

I think it all works well if no body takes the piss , unfortunately some people do

Yeah that's right, parts wanted is in a members only area.

The current placement can therefore work against club members who'll need to compte with the general public for parts on the open market (ebay, Gumtree etc).

What really galls me is not a parts issue but forum members (ie not paid-up club members) pumping everyone for FREE info and then disappearing - I rarely see them becomming members later. I do see people joing just before or after their presentation which is refreshing and respectful !:cheers:

Some never join, some join later, some join straight away. Maybe those that just come briefly for a bit of info just hate the Internet but say nice things about us to real people. Nothing to get galled about IMO.

Well, mine (and others too) is that grabbing as much free info as poss, frenqently without a presentation, is taking the p*ss. There are those nice enough on here to share but rare that these freebies stick around to give something back to the club even if only to attend a meeting !

We won't let club members find parts outside of other club members but give away all the hints, tips, advice and where to best buy to non-members....like I said, it defeats MY logic but that's just mho.:EXTRAcool:
