Brake upgrades, inc handbrake concerns

For general road use you can use far more generic pads though, that said I'd stick clear of EBC. The quality is notirously poor and I've know of several failures through spirited use and trackdays....

I have read that on forums lately but when I used them on my old Porsche's they were great, both red and yellow stuff pads ,

from a but more reading they seemed to have changed there formula though,

Am I alone in thinking they are fantastically expensive?

you're right there not cheap ,

Its the same as the R32 pads there is a lot of choice and price differences out there

Yes and no, its all relative and you get what you pay for. I spent £105 for the Porterfield R4S pads on my front brake pads for the R32 conversion, however its worth it for the gain of a performance pad. Equally I've spent £330 for a set of Carbotech pads on my MR2, its alot of money however it gives you stopping power that could rip your face off with stock brakes and expirienced no fade....

Also I try not to think of things as too expensive, I just can't afford them. Usually the product is worth the money they're asking....

May be a more recent thing then, certainly I've heard nothing good said about them in the last few years... Then again it all depends on intended useage.

I just acquired these as r32 calipers. I was expecting heavy steel, but actually they're a light alloy too. [emoji106]

3kg each. What are yours?

Exactly the same, I was pretty amazed by how light they felt! Very comparable to the other upgraded wilwood offerings etc...

I got quite concerned/confused over the different types of callipers and quoted weights and materials when I was looking.

What size discs do you use with these calipers? are they 296 or 280? or either?

I’ve swapped my Toyota setup to these now. The braking “feels” better but that’s probably just the aggressive pads.

These calipers are very very close to my 16” wheels. I’ve spaced them out by 3mm and now they just clear.

I use 296mm R32 GTR discs with a bit of machining
Thanks Gary. 300zx turbo has 280mm disks and r32 gtr has 296. But they both use same calipers, right?
So the difference between your setup and Turn & Burn is in the adaptor mount. Is that right?
300zx disks seem cheaper [emoji6]

what size discs are they? I've measured upto 295 maybe 300mm under 14" et0 wheels

Have you considered getting a floating disk setup to go with these Gary? Would surely make disk changes much more straight forward with less work?

Yeah need to look into this next I think , using a off the shelf disc from AP or willwood like johny's and the T3 setup,

You would just need to buy a disc then and bolt it on to the carrier you already have then ,

Any idea how much the replacement discs are JohnyMD ?

The difference is in the front strut design, the lugs that hold the caliper are further towards the centre line on the 300zx because they are designed for the smaller disc's, The R32 mounts are effectively longer for the bigger diameter disc but also the disc is thicker to make the gap bigger between the disc to let more air in for cooling,

I designed my brackets specially for the R32 disc in keeping with the calipers , So my brackets must be different to Turn&burns , I will have to have a look at his thread again,

The disc's are around £150 for the R32 GTR so not much more than decent standard disc's but you do have to machine them out and redrill them or pay some one to do it , so this will add to the cost also .

I did look at the s14 disc's to but i didn't think there was that much room to get the caliper in that far without fooling the datsun hub
