Anyone got any experience of cheaper competitors to AD08Rs?
I've been looking for some decent 17" tyres but I'm too cheap to pay £100/corner!

How about nankang ns2r or accelera 651 sport? Much nicer prices.

Well Mr Bills, when young Woodrow arrived
at mine the ADR08s were “smelling” of grip, hot to the touch and betraying him by telling the story of a boy racer on the twisty country road down to mine!

Putting them on my car proved that I didn’t have the muscle to three point turn my car without it moving a little. With my Michelin Wet Skids, I can happily go lock to lock in the dry. Single finger effort in the wet [emoji12] :p

Wood’s were grippy as dried on Weetabix or porridge. It’s defo worth the money if grip is your objective!

I have r888r’s on the blue car, ad08r’s on the silver car, ns2r’s on the red car and t1r’s on the ratty car. The order I have listed is how I rate them good to bad. The t1r’s are noticeably very poor when pushed in comparison to the others. Ns2r’s were impressive round brands and Nürburgring and good value for money. The ad08r’s are IMO a superb all rounder not far off the r888r’s but massively cheaper (£60 per tyre).

So to sum up. For a fast road car that you may want to take on track then either the ns2r or ad08r’s would be my choice. The latter will be better but check out the prices of the 2 for your size. You will find the price changes a massive amount depending on what size your after. Ad08r’s are £86 for 205r55x16 but £100+ for 205r50x16.

and I just spent the difference on some R32 calipers :)

I know the T1r's and Ns2r's are Road legal. What about the other two as there is always mixed interpretations  ?

All these tyres are road legal and the ad08r’s and r888r’s are very capable in wet conditions. They do suffer quite a bit with age though so take advantage of their extra grip in the first year or so.

After talking with a couple of manufacturers they confirmed that age alone will not cause a tyre to degrade. The biggest cause is heat cycles which is probably the r888’s on my blue car would go off the boil after a year or so of use.

All of the tyres quoted by John are road legal, some are just more performance orientated than others....

Federal RSRs I found good for the money.
They do a 40-50% sale every year.

Miles away but Ronnie from wheels around at knockhill circuit does Yoko tyres cheaper than you can find anywhere
