Pre sale warning for L28 Engine with N42 Head

So in a few months (or less), we will be taking the engine out and lots of other bits and selling them off.

The car is currently together and driveable, if anybody is interested in the below and happy to wait they can see it in a running condition now

L28 injected engine with N42 head, the car is a 1976 model

It has 100K miles on it and from 2013 it had 65K from the paperwork and has to pass smog tests in California each year. Looks like some of the ancillaries have been changed in those years. Starts and runs, very quiet. Car is in Twickenham ATM but the car will be taken apart near Southampton. All we have done is check it over and changed the oil and put a Nissan oil filter on.

I think you’ll be very lucky to get that for it. I was thinking £350 but I know less than not much.

I wasn't expecting to get that for it:)
if you purchased an engine from a scrap car in the US and imported it unknown I would expect it to be about what you offered. I know most will rebuild it as well. If it stops raining I will go and video it starting up tomorrow

Well I would not bench mark the price based on this advert. The description is as misleading and overstated as the price. Us Standard spec L28 never ever pushed out 170bhp for a start. Price wise I would expect prices to start around £500 mark for a good condition running engine. ( no smoke, clanks etc). But that’s just my opinion.

In the real world probably 300 quid the praat asking 1500 quid is one.i was quoted a little while age £930 for a 280 zx box untried and tested
Don’t know where some of these idiots get off of asking stupid money for some parts and cars
At least someone can hear yours running so you might get more

I think it is standard supply & demand market stuff - a couple of years ago £200 was about the benchmark for a rebuildable full engine. Today £500 sounds about right.
within the next 5 years I wouldn't be surprised to see £1500. I think N42 block and P90/P79 heads are the combo to have.

Just to put it into perspective... I bought a stripped engine (that appears in good condition) for 350 for my own personal project.

L28's are hard to find...I have a spare one now and I wouldn't let that go for under 500 quid and it needs a minor refresh/rebuild.

What block is it? F54 or N42? For anyone looking to go stroker the N42 would be more valueable.

Being completely ignorant of the facts here:

Can an L28 Diesel block be used in a Z with petrol head, pistons etc. ?

I think a few combos have been tried with the LD28 block. Bit hit and miss from what ive read and getting the right rod/stroke ratio can be a bit of a pain.
