Woody, probably not an easy question to answer and sorry to land it on you.
As Events Co-ordinator can you let us know what the position is regarding this event.
I believe we booked our tickets using the Z Register code as it was decided to keep all the bookings together so we would all be on one stand.
Is the Z Club going to have official representation, an awning/shelter, flags etc or is it just the Z Register that will have that ?
It seems a shame that I have only seen official publicity from Silverstone Classic mentioning 50 years of the Capri and 60 years of the Mini yet nothing at all about the Z.
Is there a parade lap, if so which day and time ?
Do we have any idea of the numbers booked already ?
Thanks for being understanding Chris, a bit of a poisoned chalice to inherit sadly.
I’ll fill you and everyone else in with all of the information that I’ve pieced together over the last month or so having taken on the role for the club. I will caveat this by saying that this is my personal understanding as no single person has the answers, and these are the conclusions that I’ve drawn.
There was talk between all of the clubs last year about unanimously attending this event (albeit sporadic due to the varied communication methods being several clubs), no one wanted to step up to take point on the organisation of the event due to the amount of work and coordination involved and the club having no one in the events coordinator role had no one to take this forward.
At present any action towards this event has been by the individual clubs, the ZRegister has organised they’re usual stand at the event and allowed other clubs access to book onto the stand however nothing further has been done (to my knowledge). This doesn’t appear to have been clearly shared or agreed as information, very few clubs have therefore acted upon this. The Nissansportz club have probably been the most proactive in attempting to move this forward and certainly pushed it with their club (that I’ve seen). Other clubs have simply given up due to the lack of information and understandably those still interested are struggling to now do anything with the limited time available lack of hotels, cost etc.
I setup this thread whenever it was (and before I took on the role) so that anyone interested could try and get in on the action before it was too late, hence the lack of info and posting on my part (I just felt a public area to discuss this further should be on the club). Before we went to Spa I did message Silverstone about the clubs attendance and whether anything could be done to mark the occasion etc however to date I’ve received no response. As you’ve noted there’s a huge amount of anniversary’s being celebrated (at least a dozen if not more) by a variety of clubs across the event, anything we can secure at this stage will be minor by comparison if at all possible with only two months to go.
I will try and follow up with Silverstone and get an official response to get things moving in some way and see if it’s not too late to do anything however time is very much against us and no promises can be made, these type of events need to be planned over a year in advance to give suitable warning to all those involved. Silverstone may just blanket ignore any requests and have already printed publications already etc
In terms of an official club presence with awning/shelter, flags etc I am sure this would be possible (subject to Silverstone approval, I’ve never been before to know the usual format), however it will require volunteers to bring these items to the site and make sure they are returned etc. That also involves clubs members to commit to being there for the whole weekend and transporting this gear. I can’t comment on what the ZRegister may be planning as I have no contact with them at present…
To my knowledge there is no parade lap at this time, albeit people have talked about one and requested on enough times you could understandably believe there may be one!
No idea on total numbers booked, the ZRegister may have an admin role over the stand to clarify this. Again not sure who can clarify…
On a personal note I actually have a pre-existing commitment for volunteer work starting the same Saturday so will be unavailable to actually be hands on for the weekend, albeit happy to pedal things along from behind my desk if it helps the club.
You now know as much as I do….
