hi all can i pick your combined brains . still having wows with my 280z had the car running a little back but having a few problems with it now . this is where we are at
1 new dizzy so great spark
2 got good fuel pressure 36psi minimum
3 fuel at the rail with out injector on
4 with injector on no fuel spray fron injectors
the only thing i can think is that the ecu is bust as i have power to the fuel punp relay . got 2 relays 1 new 1 original . my plans to go to donnington are up in smoke its been one problem after the other . if i didnt enjoy trying to fix the thing i think i go mad or is that just restoring a 44 year old car . it still look cool as hell thow.
on another matter can anyone recommend an adhesive to stick my tailgate weather strip had a go two time with so called glue ,it stick to the body but not the body and the rubber . if anyone needs someone to remove glue ian your man world expert . hope somebody can help as i may have to take it to someone how actually know what there doing .the only problem with that is that iam from Yorkshire so spending money on mechanics bring me out in a rash . if anybody has gods address please pm me thanks chris :banghead:

yeh had a look at that have it downloaded on my laptop. dont fully understand it may have to go down the pro route as a cant be trouble shooting this for months . but the adhesive you recommended i have just got off ebay for £15 all in .it would be fratastic if someone had a working ecu i could lend to see if it the problem . i can get a ecu for about £120 but it may be better to send it to a pro and conferm the fault . getting a little frustrated as ian gagging to drive the car and dont want to get bogged down with things above my skill set . thank you for your reply chris

I thought I could help you out by lending you a 280ZX one but looks like they are different. Hopefully someone with a 280Z can come to the rescue.

hi many thanks for the offer been to see the pro and he said to have it tested so gave me the number of a tester .ring them up and they say its way to old for them to test it so back to square one again . mechainics away for two weeks so do i wait and pay for him to test the ecu or do i bite the bullet and get a used one from the state ? the only good part to this story is that ian building a great amount of future spare parts . the only other sulution is A . replacement full ecu systum .B swop to carbs .C gallon of petrol and a match but the latter is a little over the top . will keep going from the patron saint of travel st christopher ( good job god didnt need a lift from a man with a dodgy datsun ,but maybe he a good mechainic ) chris

I would put a wanted ad up... there is hopefully someone on here that may have one for you to lend...failing that try the Facebook page....datsun parts Europe and worldwide...

If you discover that a 280ZX one may work..give me a shout..

I know nothing about EFI but there's no chance it's a bad ground or poor connection somewhere or anything like that is there? Might be worth going over the whole system including the ECU with a multimeter to check - it only takes one accidentally snagged wire or ground wire that's come loose to mess things up.

Chris are you in Hatfield? If you would like another pair of hands I would be quite happy to pop down as I'm only in Stevenage.

Drop me a pm if your interested.

Hi Chris

Not sure if i have sent you this link before.

280Z/ZX Electronic Fuel Injection Guide

The link is for the EFI system for a 280Z.

Good step by step guide for 'car won't start'. Also how to check your ECU.

If you have a EFI system from a 280ZX, they are similar enough but with a few other bits.

I will see if I have a PDF version of that manual.

Quick question.

If your system is off a 280ZX:

Does the fuel pump come on when you turn the key and stay on when the engine is cranking? You should hear the fuel pump buzz then stop to pressurise the system at the first key position, then turn back on as you turn the key to start the engine (starts to crank.)

I ask because if there is no signal from the oil pressure switch (signals oil pressure present) when cranking, the fuel pump will not run (for a 280ZX).

Interested to hear how this pans out Chris (hopefully for the better).

I have an L28 and will be fitting the ez-efi system when it arrives from Z car depot in a few weeks.

My system is missing several sensors and the wiring is questionable at best.

I have had the car running briefly a couple of times but recently my injectors decided to stop firing on startup. I have yet to troubleshoot properly but I'm sure it is a loose connection or bad earth somewhere.

For what it's worth, I'm not far from you (Leeds) so could be nice to meet a fellow Zed'r in the area when you get up and running!

Sure you’ve not fried you ignition module on the dizzy when you jumped it? It’s about the only Chip in the whole system. Not sure about the tacho. Have you read how the EFI system works in the manual I sent you a link to? It gives you all the inputs to the ECU.
