I know it's not everyone's cup of tea ;) I've tried to make it all so you don't need an account.
I've just swapped my website backend to allow me to post content as well as products.
I'll try to get it copied over to there as a post.
There is also a video I need to edit of me building that board.

I tried to test out my Speeduino at the weekend.
I assembled it myself last Autumn... and made some mistakes - I put one of the ICs where the VR conditioner was meant to go and when I fixed that I put the VR conditioner on upside down.
I fixed them both, but it involved desoldering which messed up some pcb tracks and caused further fixes so I wasn't that confident.

First test... It connected to Tuner Studio on my desk OK.

The MAP reported 105kpa which is reasonable and suggests the board is basically alive.

Next step was to connect it to the crank sensor on my running engine and see if I could detect it moving.
I couldn't. [emoji22]
My hope is just the VR conditioner is knackered.
So I've ordered a new one.
If that doesn't fix it, I think I have to make another main board and try again.

A new VR conditioner and some guidance on the Speeduino forum and I have successful crank signal sync. Hooray.
Flashing lights and everything!


Next step is to connect ign output 1 to coil output 1 and make sure I've got TDC right.

Great progress. Is the crank sensor the only thing currently connected?, other than a vacuum pipe. Are you going to be running waisted spark or full 720?

It's going to be wasted spark, because mainly I've got a wasted spark coil pack from the aborted nodiz setup.
I *think* it could do full sequential ignition but would need hardware reconfig. Later maybe.

A bit of progress. I'm only getting useful sparks out of coil #2.
I think I've confirmed that either my coil pack or igniter is duff. The speeduino seems seems fine.
So I'm running 2 cylinders on speeduino and 4 on the distributor at the mo.
I've also got a cheap tacho working. I need to get this into my Zed tacho case and get a 10k rpm tacho face organised now.

Fitted the new coil pack and it runs nicely.

I've got to tidy the wiring up and the spark table can be improved I'm sure.
One interesting thing I've already done that I couldn't do with the distributor is reduce the idle speed to just under 1000 rpm.

I've noticed something funny. Quite often it'll backfire in the exhaust once when I start it.

I think this must be a "wasted" spark igniting fuel on the exhaust stroke.
Anyone seen this before?

Yes, it's still a mess compared to many of your engine bays.

I've also started to think about injection now.

Alibaba has a manufacturer that sells dcoe pattern throttle bodies for $260 a go. I could probably have it running for another $1000.

Here's my current spark table for reference.

I've been out for a drive and logged what's been going on with Tuner Studio. Megalog viewer is very handy for plotting scatter graphs of how much advance I have at given rpm and throttle position.

I think it shows I've got a safe setup, with lots of advance for economical cruising with max 34 degrees under load upto torque peak and 36 over it.

Great work there Jon.

Those Megalog traces give you a really good view of what ignition your getting under what conditions. It would be interesting to see the AFR at the various points too. I would imagine you will get a very complete burn at those high advances which will be great for cruising.

Unfortunately I don't think my AFR controller has a compatible output, so I'll have to swap it out before I can do that [emoji18] but I think injection and a lot more sensors are now inevitable :)

That looks great Jon! Even better than my silly expensive 123 ignition. It gives you far more data to play with.

It was perfect for me. Pretty cheap and the opposite of plug and play.
But the rot has set in. Throttle bodies were ordered yesterday.

Those throttle bodies do look good value Jon.

I have been looking at GSX1300R ITB's. I have assembled a set of 6 and I'm going the route of a new custom manifold. The drawings for this are currently with the laser/water cutters. This could be another cost effective route for "good" efi.
