What did you do to your Z this week?

My latest project car had come to a bit of a standstill as I couldn’t fit su’s with the exhaust manifold I had chosen to use. So I brought forward the plan to swap the FI from the ratty silver zed. With that car now back up and running on su’s and distributor, I could continue with this one.

Spent the weekend fitting the ITB’s along with a new inlet manifold (which needed quite a bit of reeking). With that all finished I moved onto the fuel system. In the other car I had the hp pump, filter/regulator and swirl pot all in the engine bay. As I’m trying to go for a cleaner look and consider fuel temps a bit more I desired to fit it all near the tank. A bit tight back there but it’s all fitted now in a similar layout to the blue car.

Been preparing the Harada manifold for the Fairlady Z; given the chrome and polished aluminium theme in that car's engine bay, I couldn't bring myself to just go with a factory casting appearance, especially as the current Cannon manifold has a polishing job on it. Completely unnecessary for any of you function-over-form types, but I like bling. So, cue lots of faff with a dremel and wet and dry paper, etc....

As shown, the cable is connected. I will we soldering a ball end onto it allowing direct connection to the pedal. It will be a non-invasive mod with no drilling or faffing about. I will be getting a thick, stepped washer/finisher machined up that will go over the existing throttle rod hole in the bulkhead, with a threaded hole through it to accept the cable end fitting/adjuster.

Rich that is a bit much but you and I are at different ends of the scale re bling. When you solder that nipple give it some mechanical strength so you are not relying on solder alone. For example splay the strands of the cable before soldering.

I like the, polished to a nice bright satin sheen effect, not a big fan of manifolds etc being highly/mirror polished!

Each to their own! It’s no different in look to the existing polished manifold and works cosmetically given the carbs are mirror polished too.

Re: the cable end, yes, I’ll do something to secure the solder. A tutorial on Hybrid Z showed the cable end being impregnated with solder before joining to the ball end. I’ll do that and see how it goes.

Brackets are done for the R32 caliper/Disc's , just waiting on some custom stainless brake hoses now to finish it all off and test drive it . Should help on the mountain roads, just need to check the weight compared to the old Toyota set up now

Also made these on Sunday- bolt-on uprights for my front end axle dolly. Need to pop over one lunch and fit these and then Project Dixie will be properly secured to the dollies rather than just resting lightly on them. Much safer for moving around and crawling around under!

I could of worded my reply better, what i meant was, I like the finish you've achieved, it didn't look too highly polished in the photos, but either way, it's much better than the dull/matt surface they come with! ;)

Dixie is booked in for a full four stage treatment at EnviroStrip in Tamworth at the end of March. So, pyrolysis (oven bake), rust removal, protective coating, and 2k bodywork weld-thru primer. Will then be ready for body repairs and modifications. Hopefully this gets the ball rolling towards the car being painted before the end of the summer.

Just an observation and I'm obviously no expert on brakes, but the caliper looks like its too high, as in it should be closer to the hub, so the pads are more central on the disc, no?!

I know what you mean Toopy, But they are in the same position as they were on the R32 , I used the wipe pattern off the old disc's as a datum.

Had a cheeky bid on an auction in Japan expecting to get outbid. Should’ve learnt from last time I did that - Japanese bidders don’t tend to snipe!

Used full set of RS Watanabe R-types incoming soon...

Those 15x9 -15 Rota RKRs may soon be up for sale!

Its an exclusive club :)

What size did you get? What bidding service did you use?
