Part suppliers

As their popularity grows and further imports arrive in the Old World, so it becomes more interesting to produce parts without the usual high shipping costs, customs charges and any trouble returning wrong or broken parts.

Good Idea. I think we should make it a world wide list though, just detail ones that are good to deal with?

Ie, there's lots of decent stuff coming out of europe/Japan/Thailand/USA.

Most are cheaper even with post/duty/vat etc.

I think it would be a great resource if someone is willing to invest the time collating it, certainly worldwide makes sense.

From the states I think Rockauto is hard to beat for vlaue for money, Zcardepot give great customer service. I've had good expiriences with RHDJapan funnily enough from Japan etc.

maybe we all put stuff in this thread, then put together a master list with comments?

Agree about rockauto, for all the little service bits, for about 2/3 rd's or less the cost of buying in the UK.

This is a great idea. A supplier list with feedback, best products, ones to avoid etc would be really helpful.

I've used both Skillard and FRP, to which their customer service has been amazing.

I'm not sure a post/thread is the best format for this information though, given the amount of international suppliers it might get difficult to follow? Almost could do with a basic site with list of suppliers, reviews and customer images. Would be a very valuable resource for Z community.

Kameari(Japan)

Amazing knowledge, Prompt emails(in English), excellent product support, sensible prices, proven history. Massive range of parts. Example, their own top of the range forged piston sets are cheaper and better quality than a set of ROSS pistons from the states, much less than a set in the UK.

Rock Auto(USA)

Vast parts source, lots of options for individual items, cheap post, 99% of the items even after post/duty/vat are still 50-75% of prices in the UK. A good trick is to try and get parts from the same shipping location which is noted A, B or C etc.

RHD Japan(Japan)

Mass catalogue of parts from most suppliers in Japan, parts landed in the UK normally attract a level of duty, however this tends to be lower than expected. Ie a full set of OER carbs(weber jets) with manifold, post, duty is less than a weber set in the UK. Even large parts are nicely packaged, A full fujitsubo exhaust system arrived well packaged, zero damage(beautifully made object!). I've had an issue with a gasket missing on another part and RHD Japan sent a replacement FOC.

Motorsport Auto

Large selection of parts, ie lots of needed interior trim bits listed, some of the more normal parts seem expensive, always give a bulk discount(I've had 10-20%). They do fully declare any value so you tend to get hit with VAT/Duty etc, so factor it in. Still ends up cheaper than sourcing in the UK.

Rock auto are great, they even do that thing where you order parts on a Monday planning to do the work the following weekend and you've got to move your plans forward to the coming weekend as they delivered 'too quick'.

I'm gonna throw one into the mix FRP Automotive, who have previously had a pretty poor reputation for delivery... Feel free to shoot me down here but I thought I'd give an honest account of my experience.

FRP Automotive - https://www.facebook.com/frpautomotive/

Claire was immensely helpful, delivery was as promised. Just generally lovely people to deal with.

I ordered FRP bumpers & front spoiler.

Bumpers: Perfect, no complaints. Although didn't actually end up mounting them so bare that in mind...

Spoiler: Imperfect, but nothing TLC couldn't sort. Chip on the corner, slight split at the front join. Main problem is the one bit above the indicator mount is too short and doesn't allow you to adequately get a fixing. I'm really happy with how it turned out in the end (below).

Am I doing this right?

Skillard (US)

I've got the deep 240 grille, front bumper deletes and sill protector plates with "Datsun" cutout. All a perfect fit, well wrapped and not bad at all on delivery time.

Retro-Spec (US)

I've got the RS front spoiler, headlamp cowls, scuttle panel, wide ZG arches, 3-piece rear spoiler and rear-light surrounds. All in carbon fibre. Again, perfect fit and really well wrapped. Delivery times can be long however so expect to wait and you won't be disappointed but you might be pleasantly surprised.

ZStory (Fr)

I've got the race-road header and full system all in stainless. Fit like a glove with triples. Again, well wrapped and really good delivery times. I believe the owner has been known to pop up on here at times ;-)

Interior Innovations (US)

Nice diamond-quilted interior trim in a selection of materials and stitch colours with good delivery times. I bought black leather with charcoal stitch. Fits well and not bad on delivery time. Material comes postmarked Pakistan.

FWIW, I also chose to deal with FRP after seeing their spoiler on facebook. I was a little sceptical after reading some of the feedback, but the product looked good and I'd seen they had changed their business model and how they handle orders.

Claire was very helpful and made an effort to ensure I received my front spoiler before xmas, as I had planned to do some work over the break.

Quality of the product is good, no damage, but a few small chips which won't be visible once sprayed up. I'd use them again. I've not actually got round to fitting it yet, but when offering the product up to the front, it looks well measured.

Based on this, I would use them again.

Other sources for various parts I can think of for the moment...

MJP - excellent products, quality and service (need I say more?)

SGS engineering - used them for a strut regas (not strictly a refab part) though they do sell new ones. Very easy to deal with.

Bought some bits and pieces off these guys when doing my resto.

https://www.240zrubberparts.com

Zeddsaver.com I have their card so I must have got something of them at some time. They seem to have hard to find parts.

Not strictly zed related but vehicleproducts.co.uk are very good for your wiring needs. They do kits of connectors and crimps that are very close to what's on your early Z

Zcardepot.com - Great server and almost next day delivery. Price is pretty good for the parts I've bought.

Zcarparts.com - OK to deal with although you don't know if parts are in stock until they contact you a day or so after ordering when they process the order.

Rockauto.com - I made the mistake of ordering consolidated delivery as it was a little cheap and the predicted 5 day delivery changed to nearly 3 weeks after they processed the order.

Suspension kit - good comms from Ad at VA, also from intrax. Had an issue with a hub getting damaged while getting modified, all handled In a professsional and generous manor, well above service levels I’ve had before.

Fujitsubo(Japan)

Didn’t order direct but emailed as part of my exhaust purchase, prompt replies, all data asked for recieved. Amazing quality for a big company.
