4WD Nissan R35 Datsun 240Z Build, a new project

Hello all,

I am currently building a 4 wheel drive Datsun 240Z / R35 GTR. This build is different from those who have put an R35 Engine in there Zs before due to the following:

Full R35 GTR Floor pan. Using a full R35 GTR floor pan, having to cut up a GTR is always a bit of fun this will allow me to have the first 4WD R35 Powered Datsun 240z.

Power will be around 1000 to 15000BHP ( Still undecided) I am looking to have the car Bayside Blue an R34 GTR colour, with a full rocket bunny kit along with lots of custom carbon bits. Interior will have to be that of a full GTR due to me wanting to keep functionality in all the components.

Just a sneak look of where the car is currently at. Getting the car ready for the R35 Floor pan creating a frame work around the car to keep structural integrity.

Any questions fire away, is still early in the build but it is well underway!

Good luck, keep us updated with the progress.

So this will be like the Qashqui but lighter and better looking? Can't imagine it will be as easy as the Datsun is far smaller.

Yeh we didnt realise how tiny the car is! Will have to cut the GTR shell quite alot. Is the next step so will see how well we do. Will be similar build process to SVMs juke-R and Qashqai-R.
Is my 'first build' in terms of with the company and my own personal car. So lots of fun to see how the process goes.

What company?

I guess for IVA you'll have the engine standard to pass the emissions stuff? GTR interior should help with all the rules and regs on edges etc. Think they'll be any issues with the bodykit for IVA?

Wow! This is a very interesting project.

I don't think you'll have much room left in the 240Z when you get all the R35 components in! The rear gearbox might be a challenge.

When Nissan made the Juke-R they told me they only needed to change one value for the wheelbase in the ECU and all the clever electronic gadgetry worked fine.

Wow.
It's your project I know so you can do what you like, but... Are you sure about that rocket bunny kit? Those rear arches... [emoji849]

Very ambitious and I must say creative as well.
Look forward to this one progress and I hope someone does a tv show on the build.
Very enthusiastic thumbs up!

Yah, they are really small, even parked next to a normal sized car like a MK6 Golf mine looks small. Will be interesting to see if this can be made to work.

Not much choice when due to the R35 base you need to run really wide arches I would imagine. Although something custom could look nicer, perhaps using Porsche arches.

I applaud your knowledge, ingenuity, resourcefulness, deep pockets and wish to do something different and look forward to seeing the finished car. Not my cup of tea AT ALL though! But doesn't stop me learning stuff from afar!

I've seen Project Binky, anything's possible [emoji14]

I can't understand what this project is trying to achieve.

Is it to show what you can do? If so why not build something that is commercial and useful?

It will take a huge amount of effort and ruin two cars.

"Power will be around 1000 to 15000BHP ( Still undecided)" - ok 15000 is obviously a typo but 1000 bhp - really, why?

I just look at this picture and think 'what a shame'.

Hey Rob,

As an engineering project to show off what the company can achieve I would suggest is the point. Great advertisement.

When I spoke to josh I don’t think the idea was to create a road going car. They’ve already got the UK’s fastest GTR and the Juke GT-R. I would guess both of these get lots of interest from magazines and social media.

This Datsun was surprisingly rotten too, complete floors were gone, sills have been previously repaired and bodged, the rear arch was full of filler. He definitely picked the right car to cut up and start his project.

I convinced Josh to come on here and keep everyone updated as it is an interesting project, I knew it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but come on... show some enthusiasm.
