Hi All,

As above do any of the usual suspects have any cars coming across the UK any time soon?

I've just acquired a few bits from TTT which are going to a contact of mine is Cali that I'd like to bring back across and it would be great if they could just be stashed in a car for postage/import reasons. I'm no rush so to speak so would be grateful of any assistance.

Cheers,

Mark

have you thought about just using a forwarding company? So you have a US address, then its upto yourself about how brave you're feeling for declared value?

All american imports in Bristol ship their cars out of LA.
Sure they would stash it in a container if you asked nicely and a couple of $

Not something I've really considered however it wouldn't save me anything as the parts have gone to my uncle who could effectivly do the same at no cost to me. As the parts are strut braces and a C pillar bar they're quite big to just post so to speak when you think about the associated costs (shipping/customs/VAT etc).

Thanks for the suggestion however I'd have more peace of mind having the parts dropped into members a car on here rather than be a the mercy of being lost loose in a container.... Trying to be as safe and economic as is possible.

Is there any way of bundling a load of items that need to be shipped from various members together and sending them all at once?

Try https://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/ for a quote, I've used them in the past for items too large for USPS.
The items will be shipped by DHL or UPS for about a quarter of what they normally charge.

I think the general thing here is that Woody's trying to save on the import fees and taxes if it comes inside a vehicle ... if it comes via UPS etc, those are still payable, surely.

I figured you would have to manifest and declare the value of each item going into the container.
I copped a load of grief for having an incorrectly manifested set of wheels in a container with a car (and that was from UK to Cyprus with no tax/duty involved).
You must be counting on there being lazy Customs Officers on both sides to allow undeclared boxes through without any questions.
Bolting them onto an S30, being shipped, would be a different matter.

Who said anything about a container? This is RoRo I think. Plenty of people have imported cars that have been loaded with parts, wheels, wings, etc. The tricky part is making sure all the things you want to still be in the car when it arrives in Blighty still are when it gets here, from my experience.

The guy who took care of the import of my Z previously brought in a gearbox and suspension stuff for one of my previous cars and that was in a container, everything was paid for, all the relevant taxes etc- the only plus point was the container was stuffed with cars and parts and so the actual cost of the shipping was far less ... £80 or something, which bearing in mind the weight, would never have been achievable as a single order shipped direct to me.

And I had to go pick it up from Chelmsford!

RoRo is a different matter.

I've shipped a few vehicles to Cyprus from the UK, a couple of those were RoRo and had strict policy of no personal items allowed inside the vehicle.
I'm surprised that it is different from the US.

From my expirience and that of many others I know, you can fill the car with parts etc on the way over from the US with no issues. It's a very glorified and pretty shiping parcel but works very well. Main advance being you save the cost of shipping, customs duty and VAT which really adds up in all cases...

If anyone see's this and has a car coming over in the near future or anything in the pipeline then I'd still be grateful, in absolutely no rush to move these parts.

Heard of this happening before in a number of instances, my car spent a while in NY before being put on the boat....

In the past I have included parts in a car being shipped in a container from LA. This is risky and no, you are not allowed to do this. You are paying to ship a car and the terms are that its just the car. We get away with it on most occasions but that doesn't mean it's allowed or legal. The risk is that someone removes all the parts and you can say nothing so lose them or the container is inspected and you will have to pay duty and vat on them. There is also a risk, if you include new parts, that you may have to pay full vat and duty on everything which will make the car you used very expensive.

As I say, I have done it in the past and will do it in the future but I understand the risks. I have had this explained to me by both the shipper and the agent. It's like most things. Everything is fine until you get caught. Just like the 5% vat that most of us get away with. We are making an illegal declaration and hoping no one checks. One day they will check.
