The car has moved on a little. Sealed the underside a week or so ago. Painted the engine bay and started putting the powder coated suspension on. Spent a couple of hours today at the workshop and managed to cut down a set of struts and weld on the new BC’s.

And a bit more progress. It’s been slow due to other commitments but getting there. Suspension is all finished and the car is back on its wheels. The 15x9’s that I intended to use are very close the the struts on the front and needed 8mm spacers for the backs to clear. They were fine with the standard struts but with the coil overs the wheel interferes with the lower adjustment section. I have heard people say that you have more clearance with coil overs but in practice you actually have less. Also fitted the pedal box, steering column and rack.

Next job is brakes.

Coming on nicely.

For me I gained more room with coilovers, my wheels would not fit the front with the stock setup but has plenty of clearance with the coilovers.

It may be a combination of using 15” wheels and the position of the height adjuster on the BC’s. I’ll take some pictures when at the workshop today.

Pushed on a little with the car. Brakes are now all done with new lines. Also run new fuel lines. Played around with the doors and wings to get the panel fit where I want it. Fitted the diff to day and was planning on getting the 2.8 engine and s14 box in but didn't quite go to plan. I'm now trying to source an early gearbox mount to modify.

L28 engine, s14 gearbox, prop, R180 3.54 diff and driveshafts now fitted. As I didn't have a suitable early zed gearbox crossmember to modify I used the crossmember and mount from the s14 gearbox. It was already the correct shape and just needed shortening 10mm and a bit of tweaking. It's nice to get a bit of weight in the car so I can get a feel for its final height.

Been cleaning fuel tanks today but when I got bored with that I thought I'd test fit the manifolds which then led to the exhaust.

Wiring it’s nearly finished and so is the RHD wiper and heater install. Here’s some pictures of the progress.

Good work John. So jealous of your facilities but no doubt they cost 'a bit'.

Where's the maroon bit with flames on going to be fitted?

Could you post a pic of the two wiper mechs RHD and LHD please?

That’s my welding mask Rob.

Here is a picture of the 2 mechanisms. Not sure which is RHD though. I’ve taken it all apart again as it parks higher on the screen than when wiping!!

So things are rotating in the wrong direction.

A bit more progress and the car is now running. Even took it round the estate.

More progress over the weekend.

Started on the interior and made good headway there. Most of the diamond vinyl is in along with all the plastic trim. I cleaned all this with acetone then went over it all with a cloth and "car plan back to black". I've used a generic vinyl for the A pillars and roof surround and alcantara in black for the headlining. Very pleased with the results.

Fitted the front fiberglass bumper and the rear yesterday. As these don't come with any method of mounting to the car you have to fabricate your own. Having done a few now, I've found the best way is to make the mounts and fit them to the car then fiberglass the bumpers to the mounts. Hold it all in place until the resin goes off then remove the complete bumper and reinforce the areas around the mounts with more fiberglass. It is a bit of a pain but at least you should be able to get them spot on for the car. As I like them pretty tight to the car and with an even 7mm ish gap to the body they will need trimming to fit just right. I'm going to leave mine in the original gel coat finish as it kind off goes with the car.

Also set about rebuilding the doors. One had a damaged window frame and neither of the glass went up or down. Replaced all the runner/seals and realigned the glass and it all works smoothly again. Had to slot some of the frame holes to get it to match the rear window and body and adjust the doors a little so they fit the body and the locks work properly. You can lose several hours just on the doors.

Even had time to fit the rear number plate. Still a whole load of little jobs to do but I feel the end is in sight. Been looking at tyres for these 15x9 wheels which is proving tricky. The car will see a bit of track use and may turn into the main car I use on the track once the stroker engine is done. But, I don't want a full track tyre like the AR1 at the moment. The AD08r would be a great compromise between road and track but are not available in 225/50r15. The other option is a cheapish road tyre like the T1r which is available in this size. I think I've looked at all the track oriented tyres and the cheaper ones are only available in 205 which just won't fit properly on a 9". Also need to pick a tyre with a rounded edge to the tread so it clears the arch.
