Speedometer conversion to KM/H

Hi guys,

I’m soon to ship my 240z from UK to the Czech Republic. I’ll be registering it their.

I believe I will need to convert the speedo. Has anyone had an experience in doing this? Any tips?

Thanks, Graeme

I did the swap the other way round i.e. KMH to MPH. I think I still have the KMH speedo in the garage somewhere for a 240Z. Yours should be held in by wing nuts at the back whereas my car is a 260Z and the casing is held in by screws so I had to change the dial & workings over as the new casing didn't fit. it wasnt a straight swap. You will need to check this if you get another KHM speedo but I think the one I have in the garage has the casing with the wing nuts. I could look it out for you if you are interested.

You will need to disconnect the speedo cable and trip cable and undo the wing nuts and the whole casing should just push forward. It would be easier if you remove the steering wheel. Might also be a good time to change the bulbs to LED on all your clocks wish I had done mine whilst the speedo was out!!!:(

Do you know if it’s possible to simply take apart the speedometer and replace this item? At least it would retain existing mileage. Anyone done that?

Firstly, you don't NEED to run a km/h speedo : there is no law saying you must - plenty of American cars running about on the continent on miles !

That you wish to is another thing and understandable.

You may like to look at the later 260Z speedos which (I think) are in both, likewise the 280Zs ?

Alternatively, you can fit a cover-plate. I sell them and the guide is attached for reference. And yes, you can change (all but the last digit) the mileage.

My cover plate is €80 posted.
There is a choice between the euro (all black) and the JDM (coloured bands) versions.

I have also worked with these guys to supply complete metric gauge face covers : http://www.whitegauges.net/categories/Nissan/240Z/
I see them in white on their site - they were doing black too !
