like many other z owner i to was looking forward to seeing MZR stand but the z register had a great stand even if they had only one car on display . its just a shame that there was more austin maxis than classic z,s . hope theres more cars next year

Couldn’t find the one 240z there ... and had to content myself with looking at a brown 120Y ... about the only Japanese car there I saw. That, and the Figaro I passed on the M6.
I think every stand seemed to have a Porsche on it, so it seemed ... and even though I went in my 944, seeing them everywhere gets a bit boring ...

I thought there were quite a few Japanese cars. A very nice Toyota stand with 2000gt, 3 loverly 300zx’s, 240z and fairlady roadster on the z register stand plus a few skylines. I know Japanese were few and far between but I expected that. I was a shame that MZR were not there but it was not their fault that the organisers got it wrong on the website.
Everyone has their own ideas of a good show. If I want to see Zs I go to our meets where I can have a good look at member's cars and discuss all things Z with them. The show is very successful but a bit 'busy' for me. For those who don't know, we have attended more than once but it is a big commitment over 4 days. I'm surprised that the Z Register had a roadster on their stand - do they cater for non-Zs ?

. Good observation though Rob. Perhaps they have opened up to the early Datsun roadsters...

I stayed late on Friday to avoid traffic and the last hour was fantastic with easy access on the stands to see the cars close up and most people having already left. It is way too busy though, I agree, even on the supposedly quieter day.
C Z Register have at least two Fairlady Roadsters in their membership, a silver RHD car, ex-Rhodesia which has been to Silverstone Classic previously (unfortunately suffered flood damage earlier this year, now being rebuilt after insurance write off) and the car on the stand, a light blue SPL311, nicely restored over the last ten years or so by a guy from Somerset.
Interesting pointer as to where the market may be going, apparently the volcano orange HS30 240Z on the stand, although not for sale, had an offer of £50k left on it by a suited n booted type. This car was restored many years ago and whilst nice to a point, there were at least a couple of aspects that did not pass close inspection.

they cater for 240Z,260Z,280Z and Fairlady models up to 1978 and always have done for as long as I remember and as such have always welcomed all fairladys up until that cut of date

Great day had...
I've always liked P5B's and have had a few RV's... The perfect combo. Chatting to the owner, he's had it up to 80... but... just briefly, on a sunny, windless day!.. haha..
Great to see John from the Register and chat with the chaps at the 300ZX stand. A very, very nice yellow 300zx on the stand.... hmmm.. drooling... no space and no money, not that it was for sale... Talked of next year and wouldn't it be great to have the Register, zClub and 300zx to celebrate the coming anniversaries, cars lined up throughout the years... Awesome!... I didn't know, but it was mentioned that club stand space is free!..... I'd certainly be up for helping organising zClub attendance if the Powers To Be interested?
A real shame no MZR this year.. I wonder, order book currently full?.. Would have been nice to see their latest reincarnations. A few cars dotted around though...
In all a great day and great company. An unexpected result in sorting current storage problems of my Z to enable work on Addison's.. Got storage space dotted here and there, but not confident its dry enough for my Z. Discovered a tent at the show with fan assisted ventilation for £500.. Not thought of it before!.. Space already has power, motion alert cameras... a few axle stands (thanks Dave), a tent, and I think I'm sorted!..
Potentially sorted local zinc plating, plus acid dipping of the head and block at £150 instead of £200 and chassis for £600 instead of the £999 from SPL. Yet to try of course, or talk further, but looked promising on stand. Will post up if using them.
Had a chat with the Number Plate Centre, trying to get a 5x7" black plate for my Kawasaki W800, but alas.. refused!... Okay... Ebay, here I come!.. haha.. But with my Z, confirmed that if it has "HISTORIC" in the title (January 19, although registered in Apr78), then black and silver is legal... TBH, I'd like it aesthetically, but I'm going to stick with original bollocks yellow!

Can't see anything - was there a pic - or a link? I didn't find the 300ZX stand with the Z on - and only saw ONE other Japanese car - that brown 120Y.
Went to three number plate places - mixed views, Jepson's were very helpful, the bloke in the little caravan thing less so. Couldn't get the size I'm after in the style I'm after so will end up making my own again I reckon ... or might give the ebay bloke Ibanez Dan used a go ...

Yes, Mike, I didn't realise I hadn't put the link. Just tried it and the website is still being launched so pretty useless really! It was about vintage fuel pumps (vintagegaspumps.co.uk). £700 buys you a self build replica kit, looked pretty good.

The one I went to and was refused for the bike was numberplatecentre.com. For the Z, so long as it has HISTORIC they were okay with black and silver. Not sure on sizes if you wanted anything different from standard.

Measured the plate on the rear of mine and it was 12 x 7.5 and as you can see in the pic, its too tall, so a 6.5 high one will be just about perfect, and there is plenty of room for the extra 1" in width. Its the same price for the square and front oblong plates the Z requires, just the ebay add is for two square ones, just make a request in the extra info box when ordering, also available without the black outline in the add
Prob with 13x6.5 is that it can't take Std UK letter sizes, so you end up with import size letters which look a little too small.
Ideal I think would be 13x7 which can take standard letters if only someone would compromise on legal line spacing and border height.

With the amount of obviously illegal plates i see on an almost daily basis, i don't think anyone would really notice, especially on a classic, the police plainly don't, there's a couple of plates locally that i see regularly, that are blatantly wrong, but have been on the vehicles for years!
The latest craze seems to be black and white plates on modern black cars, especially rich pricks in bigarse SUV's

One of the stands were doing JAPANESE IMPORT size - which was 13" x 7" ... which is the ideal height/width for a Z, I think ...
But they wanted to use the smaller pressed font characters on it - some of which just look weird. I searched through some boxes outside one place and bar two zeros and two eights, they had enough single letters to make my plate up - I made my old Mustang plate this way ...
