Don't all rush at once EXTRA:D !

Please note that we are aiming to have at least one all-Z-only track session* - that's surely something worth considering.

*with crash-helmets obligatory and consequently at a fast-pace-car....pace !;)

I have been to this event many times and would recommend it to everyone. A great way to celebrate the 50th and meet likeminded zed owners. Unfortunately it’s looking more like I won’t be able to attend but I am hopeing that will change.

Can someone recommend a hotel?

Mike, I have stayed at Hotels and can recommend one (the others were poor but quite memorable)

Hotel De Relais De Pommard (very close to the circuit).

http://www.spa-francorchamps-hotel.com/

however the last time I went I stayed in chalet accommodation and it was the best for parking cars and meeting other Zedders. I'll post some pics later.

As Sylvain wrote on the first post 'most of us live in a nearby village'. It's near Malmedy so a bit of a drive (15mins?).

I've stayed there and thought the accommodation and location were perfect. Also stayed in the Racing hotel just down the road which has now close(or shut down due to health reasons). Val Du Darimont is also highly recommended.

Are you going with a group Mike?

October 2019 will mark 50 years since the introduction of the Nissan S30-series (at launch: S30-S 'Nissan Fairlady Z', S30 'Nissan Fairlady Z-L', PS30 'Nissan Fairlady Z432', PS30-SB 'Nissan Fairlady Z432-R', 'HS30'/HS30U 'Datsun 240Z' and HLS30/HLS30-U 'Datsun 240Z').

The S130-series was launched in October 1978, so its 40th Anniversary year is 2018. The S130-series is more than just "the 280ZX".

The Z31-series was launched in October 1983, and is more than just "the 300ZX" (2019 would mark 36 years since launch).

The Z32-series was launched in October 1989, and is - again - more than just "the 300ZX" (2019 marks 30 years since launch).

The C10-series Skyline range was launched in 1968. The PGC10 (4-door) 'Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R' model was launched in February 1969. The KPGC10 (2-door Hard Top) 'Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R' model was launched in October 1970...

So.... this "Anniversary Year" thing is fairly complicated, isn't it? At the very least, can we agree that October 2019 will mark 50 years since the launch of a range of variants called the Model S30-series, and not just "the 240Z"?

Still trying to figure out if I'm going but at the moment I'm on me todd. The chalet style place Rob recommended is all booked up will lookup Val Du Darimont to see what their availability is, and yes I know I need to get on with it.

I was hoping you might be going John and I would tag along with you. I'm a little surprised at the lack of interest from other members, oh well.

I may well go but I am not good at medium or long-term planning as something often crops up to thwart the best laid plans - witness last year when I had everything booked for Le Mans Classic only for le fils cadet to announce 6 weeks beforehand that his graduation day was on the same day I was supposed to be racing around the track.

I'm the same as you Chris so it's hard for me to commit. I am still considering going and if others commit then there is more chance of it.

Val d'Arimont is unfortunatly full 1 year before the event because of a trip operator.

We switched to another village that is comparable to Val d'Arimont and is Domaine Long Pre, in Stavelot :)

I was expecting this answer from you :D

yes, in a purist point of view, you are of course right.
But you know the more simple is the message the more it is marked in memories.

Yes, 240z is not fairly exact... but it is the known naming here. S30 is a chassis code... known only by Datsun guys.
280zx, yes, it is end 78 as presentation in motorshow is concerned, and 280zx name is as accurate as telling 240z for S30, for the same reason... so 40,5 years and not 40, as "240" is 49.5 in fact :) rounddish figure leads to 40 & 50 in May :)
Z32 is a 300zx, so it is right this time LOL I should add chassis code aside the line
for C10 GTR, yes 4 doors... so incomplete but not false :p

and 79 also for Silvia S110 :)

complex, yes & no... message has to be simple & meeting great.

We are 71 cars up to now ! mostly... 240z

So it's a conscious decision to exclude at least four distinct S30-series variants which were conceived, styled, engineered and produced alongside your "the 240Z"...?

I think it's an insult. Why should a Fairlady Z, Fairlady Z-L, Fairlady Z432 or Fairlady Z432-R be expected to turn up to an event celebrating a landmark anniversary for "the 240Z"?

If marque and model dedicated clubs can't get this kind of thing right, then who will? We should be leading by example, not dumbing it down to the lowest common denominator.

I think we don't track the same goal with this event

Spa-classic is a social event to group owners, speak, know each other's, drink beers all together, not a place to teach history of Z... the place to meet fans from nothern Europe... and even Portuguese ones this year :)
Facebook in flesh :p

"Advertising" is in this scope... so keywords are the ones speaking to owners and search engines, whatever their level of knowledge of Nissan

Of course JDM Z are more than welcome :)
Very few Euro owners of such rarities know that, don't they? Yes, you are welcome, Alan

Other time, other place for the other purpose, I mean history and the car(s) itself as the epicentre ... in February 2019 in Paris Motor-show Retromobile ;)

I'm sorry but I don't agree. Every event, every occasion, any time we talk/write about these cars is an opportunity for us to correct 50 years of propaganda and false history surrounding these cars, and to make ourselves wiser.

'S30' is indeed a chassis code, but also the Series code. It is the ROOT Series code. Do you still not see that - in Nissan's way of thinking - the whole family structure of the series is built around the idea that the S30 is the default model? You didn't notice that they did the same thing with other models in other series like - for example - the C10?

For many years I've been putting forward the point that you cannot fully understand or appreciate any individual model of this series unless you try to understand them all. That is especially true when applied to the family of S30-series variants which was introduced to the world in October 1969. How can you look at - for example - the radiator support panel of an early HLS30, and not wonder what all those strangely shaped holes are for? You won't understand unless you look at its siblings...

I work in car industry since a long time (ouch...)... so I understand what you mean about platform management, product definition, standardisation strategy and so on.
I like your analytic approach of the car and history.

I think our objectives are not as divergent as you think with a step backward.

There is no better place to be mid May if you want to educate numerous people in one time... come to Belgium :)
It is people centric event but your science of the model would be much appreciated.
