Thanks Woody. I opted for the 1.75in manifold but this could be causing gases to stall and thus not getting enough gas speed to make effective use of the overlap. Speaking to Steve I could be better off (and make more power - we were aiming for 260-270hp) with Seans 1 5/8th manifold instead. Steve could explain it much better than me but in my simple mind its big pipe - high pressure/low speed, small pipe low pressure, high velocity.

Specs are:
2.9l 88mm bore
Custom JE pistons
forged rods
P90 head and associated valves etc
585 lift cam
1.75in race manifold
DTA engine management and Jeney throttle bodies
New ancillaries etc etc

Interesting insight, I'll be looking at this in the near future for mine so was curious. I'm tempted by Sean's race/sport system I think but need to make some enquiries....

Thanks for the extra info, that sounds great. Very jealous, I imagine it was fun tracking down a couple of items like the P90 head. I understand if you don't wish to answer or wish to PM instead, however if you don't mind my asking, what sort of budget did you have for an engine like that?

Woody, I'll PM you if you really want to know!

Almost identical power wise?
Don't know, haven't been on a calibrated rolling road, you reminded me I ought to.
I have similar hopes to your hopes, but all I have at this time is an anecdote really.
I have the same cam and similar bottom end and welded p90 head, but on carbs. The head will be quite different to yours I'm sure so will be where any power differences come from.

I am happy with the power the engine made, would be an interesting comparison between the two for sure.
I am told that the Exon dyno is very conservative but cant really comment too much on that. The figures were the figures.

I'd imagine you'd possibly get a PM from someone EXTRA:D

It'd be interesting to see what it makes at the wheels. Especially with a few more RPM.

Stellar progress on the Z recently. Mangoletsi throttle linkage fitted and adjusted, engine wiring taking shape, Air filter mount made, rear anti roll bar connected properly.

You will nearly be ready for firing up soon. Looks like very similar to my setup.

Nice!!!!! Just been looking through your Facebook page.
Just wondering, did you use a 200sx gearbox and did you get it rebuilt

Mike,

Yes I did use a 200sx gearbox with a short shifter. I spent a while deliberating getting rebuilt but opted not to have it done. While it is a used gearbox in all likelihood its still got another 100k miles in it. Which in the Z is 2 lifetimes worth! Whether I made the right choice or not remains to be seen.

I did that but I will need to rebuild at some point as the bearings are noisy and it sounds like I have straight cut gears apart from 4th which is OK. But my mate had the same problem but his was noisy in 1 2 3 4 but OK in 5th.they both shift OK just noisy but it does seem to be a common issue with them

Hmm would be a shame if it was noisy. I'll keep my fingers crossed and see what happens. If it needs rebuilding, it will be a job for winter 2019/2020.

This sounds fantastic! Very keen to see it finished and on the road now

On the note of 200sx boxes if either of you do go down the rebuild route then I'll be curious to hear how you get on with sourcing replacement items like syncros and bearings. I'm not sure whether Nissan still stock these or not? and from what I'e heard the aftermarket items aren't the same quality.

I got a full set of bearings and synchros from cobra transmissions in the US. It needed a fair bit of work to specify the bits I wanted but we got there in the end. The bearings were all decent quality branded ones (koyo etc).
