Baffled Sumps

If all things are equal, I’d go for Japanese over American, just for better engineering.

Funny you should say that - was chatting with an American guy last night making his own inlet manifold off measurements from an Harada but not a new one for I quote "The newer ones have terrible castings."

...which is utter nonsense, and he climbed down pretty quickly when challenged on it. Apparently his idea of a "good casting" is one that he can polish to a chrome-like finish with the minimum of effort.

I notice that he claims to be "designing" his own manifold, but is actually copying wholesale from Harada's design. Just another dimwit who has no clue what he's talking about but has 'access' to computer software which will get him half way there.

If you want to see what a "terrible casting" looks like, I can show you a good example. Made by a company with a name beginning with the letter 'M'. Painted red and fitted by a company who called their work something beginning with the letter 'S':

I heed your point re DM - I merely quoted what was said and don't have an Harada to comment personally.

You're dredging up old scones Alan ;) - M has moved on and you know it. S....well, something obviously worked right whatever the casting as they made a name for themselves and in racing too.

Something you don't seem to be willing to credit Harada Shokai K.K. for...

Repeating nonsense from dimwits is rife on social media these days and you ought to know better. It spreads like wildfire and it takes only hours to burn down reputations that took years to build. It's something that all of us should be cautious of.

Didn't know he was a dimwit - I just can't, don't global watch all Z media like you do.....or are there several of you dotted around the world ?

"Don't seem to be willing to credit....." ....? Wild supposition from you, the cautious one ! It might help to better know how each individual helped the mighty L-gata but even in ignorance, I would never presume sir ! Besides, BRE showed 'em how to dit with a simple Canon part on mail-order.

Burns - go and read a book, it'll tell you all you think you want to learn.

please tell me and all the others what book to read

After all how will we ever become as clever and knowledgeable as some on here

Also not sure of how true some of the Z related books are because didn't some say the Geortz designed the Z So how will the less informed owners on here know which is true and what is not
with out help from better informed people

Don't ask me - I'm just the dimwit repeater.....thought it was Goertz anyway....are there two of them as well ?

He's plastered it all over Facebook. So he says he wants to make a 'top end' manifold for 'high end' builds. Yet hes doesn't understand anything about them, so is taking a Harada Shokai one to copy?

I don't know what he's trying to gain.

So going back to the sump, I'd go for the original over a copy, I'd go for a copy at a cheaper price point(for this), I'm not going for either as i'm out of car cash with lots of little bits needed, that'll end up costing me.

And people wonder why the club struggles with new members, openness and being welcoming when people want to talk in codes and riddles....

What is it exactly that you'd like to know? Ask me a straight question and I'll endeavour to give you a straight answer without being threatened with legal action and/or menaces.

Not only is he cribbing the Harada Shokai item for his datum points, but he's also talking about using Harada's own linkage hardware (which they are - quite philanthropically in my opinion - willing to supply to customers on a part-by-part basis) for his new "top end" item. And he doesn't see any irony in it.

Harada should blacklist him.

A lot of people on here do not use facebook
Just wondering if the use of the Initials M,S by some in the know, relates to Marks & Spenser
Come on know How can I and other less informed members on here learn about things if we have no idea about what is being talked about

Just Imagine if Geortz was never mentioned in any discussion years ago We still would be thinking he designed the Z

Come on now people should not try and get people discussing things and then when asked who it was about not tell them

Just proves to my wife I don't zap from page to page for hours each day - thanks.

I guess he's trying to gain his 15minutes notoriety.

Yes, back to the sump and an end to all this flit-flat off-topic, dimwitted (and repeated for the hard of reading in NW) nonsense.......

You'd go for the original !

Who made the original - did Kameari wake up and decide, today - we're going to make that sump I thought of last week ?

What was available before ? I've seen the wide-bay 'competition' sumps which must need specific exhaust manifolds to avoid them....

And you'd go for a cheaper copy.....dream on unless you make your own !

Wasn't aimed at you Alan, more in reference to 'M', 'S' and some 'book'. Much appreciated though, I think you're safe from any threats ;)

In reference to the inlet manifold photos I posted, illustrating a properly "poor casting" from the 1970s, the 'M' in question was manufacturer Mangoletsi and the 'S' in question was Samuri Conversions.

And now I'm probably going to have the drones hovering above the house again. Better get the 'ol tin foil hat on...

Maybe you should ask the same question of Arizona Z Car? I don't think its necessary to look for any kind of Genesis type moment for this kind of component. Special sumps for competition use are pretty much as old as the automobile itself. They pretty much all address the same problem and come up with the same solutions.

Nissan was making and supplying gated and baffled sumps for L6 engines from 1970, and by 1972 they were using cast alloy, gated/trap-doored, baffled high capacity sumps on their Works cars. They would sell you a full bolt-on dry sump system if you wanted one too.
