Hi

I've purchased some Rota RB 16x7 wheels and just wondered what tyres best to fit and fill the arches. I have just refitted standard arches to the car. Thanks

Kevin...I might sound like a stick in the mud and this maight be taken as a slight towards you (it isn't - nothing personal) but you've been registered on this forum since November 2016, 18months, without a peep from you to present yourself or your car and now you'd like some help and advice.

It's not my intention not to welcome you warmly - I'd love to if you'd merely introduce yourself politely first.

Fitting tyres on wider wheels all depends upon the 'look' you wish and the ride height of the car (lower the car and wider tyres might rub). I think you'll find 205s will work nicely but the choice also depends upon what is available in the dimentions required (diameter, profile and width).

You might also do a search on the forum as I'm quite sure the quetion has been posed before, the answers to which will serve as a base guide for your choice.

Thank you for your response Sean.

Apologies for the lack of introduction etc, I’ll do that shortly.

I have indeed been conspicuous by absence for eighteen months that is true. The reason for that is that I’ve had a frustrating time attempting to get a rebuild project on my 260z that I bought in 2016 up and going. This has involved a complete strip and repairs, engine rebuild etc. It’s only now starting to get some traction to the point where I can start to rebuild, I acknowledge of course that being an active member of the Z club will help me in that process as indeed sharing my experiences will hopefully add value to other members. I’ll correct that, my apologies once again, and thank you for your information.

One frustration however does indeed relate to your stainless steel manifold and full exhaust system. Is it correct that there are none available until this year end? Please advise.
That kind of typifies some of the frustrations I’ve experienced, although I’m sure I could of helped the situation by being a little more active.

Many thanks again

Anticipation is the key as far as parts go.

I do have manifolds in stock but only the Full Race version. I have exhaust lines in stock but not with the JDM twin vertical exit.

So yes, end of the year for the full range in stock and a decent discount given for any pre-orders confirmed with a 50% deposit.

Given that we're a bit off topic should I PM you to discuss my exhaust requirement further ?

Thanks

I have 16x7 rbs on mine Kevin and have 205/55 /16.

There’s a fair bit on forums that I read and went for the above as few seemed to have had problems rubbing etc.

Thanks very much for that, that’s really helpful. I’m assuming from your post that you’re happy with the looks and function of them.
On that assumption I’ll do exactly the same then.

Thanks very much

Guys I'm no expert on wheels but I would have thought that you need to agree offset to ensure that they clear arches/struts etc?

I've also got 16x7 wheels fitted albeit Panasport wheels and the car has standard wheel arches. My car is also lowered on coilovers and I have no rubbing or clearance issues with 205/55/16 tyres fitted.

They look the part I think (pictures below). I'm not sure what the fitment would be if I wanted to get 8J wheels with 225/50 profile tyres, I think arch rolling would probably be necessary at that stage....

Great thanks for that, Wow the car looks fantastic. My wheels are very similar but with a Gun Black Chrome inner, I also have slightly lowered coils to fit.

The colours close as well, I'm going slightly off stock and going with the Katsura Orange I think (same as the current GTR). Either way I'll be happy if it looks anything like that good!

Thanks again to all, really helpful

Young Mr Woodrow!!!!!! Have you been driving on lug-centric wheels with just 3 on!?!?!?! [emoji33][emoji33][emoji33]

Or did the power just overwhelm it!? [emoji12]

Obviously the power totally overwhelmed it, the stock ish L series means it eats tyres as a snack!

Thank you for pointing it out, fortunately it was a known issue which another member also kindly pointed out to me. It's having new lugs fitted, the thread was damaged hence the missing wheel nut. Fortunately it was removed before it went flying off! My enthusiastic driving style has certainly been weeding out all of the weak points of the car :conf2:

Very beady eyes senior! ;)

Lug thread I believe, rather than any hub damage fortunately. Nice and simple fix.

I hadn't noticed

Haha yes he's a very busy man right now! Today has given some big surprises which have slowed down progress however fortunately with his skill set it's all being overcome :) It's quite scary what these old cars can throw up, she's certainly in very safe hands though. Various jobs which were certainly well beyond my skill set. You won't go wrong if you send your car there to him.

There will be a big update coming to my project thread however the plan is still very much Le Mans ready next week :willynilly:
