Bugger. First time in 15 years of ownership. Waiting for recovery truck #2 to arrive that can lift it without tearing the air dam off...

Had a nice 3 hours sunning myself, the wife brought drinks and snacks for me. Second recovery guy was sound and sympathetic towards classics and his truck was ideal for low vehicles. I was only a mile and half from home!

I’m pretty sure the Facet pump has gone bye-bye. Just lost engine power gradually and rolled to a halt. Engine would turn over and fire at first before dying. Tell tale sign - the pump could not be heard running when it should’ve been. All connectors, fuses and wires in the pump circuit fine, so is either the pump itself or the low oil pressure safety cut off switch.

That just means there are two to go wrong... ;)

Anyway, realised what the real problem is - the Facet says ‘Made in the USA’ on it...

No! Compomotive MLs, crafted by patriotic Tommies in God’s Own Country, England...

(To be fair, they will be getting replaced for some Philippine Watanabe knock-off Rota RKRs shortly, so I’m perfectly fine with a bit of globalisation in the supply chain!)

Oh, great 'cos Panasports suck......although Compo MLs aren't much better and weigh a ton.

Rota RKRs - yes but what would you choose as a track-day set ?

Not something I’d think about as that car is unlikely to see a track! Then again, plenty of people beat Rotas around tracks with zero issues; all the “Rotas suck/catastrophic fail” stuff is overblown internet crap from wheel snobs.

Agree with that, Rotas have been put to the test for years and are indeed strong enough for street and track use on Zeds.
My mate rolled his track Zed about 6 times and his Rotas held together beautifully, can't say as much for the bent spindles and suspension bits.

Reassuring as I've chosen Rota RKRs for my road tyres......just looking at options for the track in 8x15 or maybe 8x16..anyway, I digress - happy you got home and what IS your fuel pump solution ?

"Test" being somewhat ironic, in Rota's case.

At least some of the shade thrown at Rota and their parent company over the years has been to do with faked testing certification, especially with relation to the Japanese industry standard 'JWL' and 'VIA' markings. Rota have been accused of putting 'JWL' and 'VIA' testing certification markings on wheels that had not actually been submitted for such testing in Japan, and were therefore using the markings illegally.

I'm sure most of the Rota wheels are perfectly strong enough for street use, but the fact that they are almost completely absent from the Japanese market (one of the world's largest markets for aftermarket wheels, and probably the largest, closest market to Rota's manufacturing base) might tell you something...

I think John has been running his Grids on the track with a fair whack of bhp for several years now and I'd be interested to rear what you might suggest as a suitable track wheel without getting into 'silly' money please ?

I think a dual pump system is a good idea especially considering the hidden location and the debris that comes out of these tanks. I've had a pump fail and I've had one with a filter almost blocked.

They need separate fuel feeds so that if one blocks the other can be used. On my blue car there were two filters and two switches however one filter was in the engine bay and relied on pulling fuel through the rear one. If the rear filter blocked that wouldn't work either.

Almost anything, within reason. Tyre size, brake clearance, suspension clearance, budget are major factors, aren't they? I'm not differentiating between 'street' and 'track' use because these days using a wheel on the street is like sending it to war, considering the state of my local urban roads...

It's a bit of a 'how long is a...' type question. Personally I think the fact that modern tyres (construction, compounds) are so much better now than they were 45+ years ago has a major effect on the way these cars handle, and it's all too easy to over-tyre and over-wheel them as a sacrifice to looks. And tyres are the black art. Literally. Wheels are just the things that the tyres sit on.

Back on topic: Richard, I reckon it's probably just crud in your pump. If it's got past the pump's internal filter even a tiny bit of crud can stop it working. Very simple fix!

At least she still looks great even when shes not running. And it seems its a simple problem.

Yeah, I've had crap from the USA, but I've also had some excellent products, unfortunately its more often the former.

I’ll be dropping the pump off if not tonight then tomorrow and will pop it open. I would hope there’s not much tank crud given that tank is NOS and had never been used before I fitted it two years ago. I also treated the rust-free inside with Rustbuster’s lining stuff. Still, who knows what accumulates when standing for months during winter and what gets in with the fuel when filling up...

This is what came out of the filter in the bottom of my pump! The plastic filter is off another car.
