Stuck-up 350 drivers!

No prob

It's very easy to write and read things the wrong way :)

Which is why it's always best to assume that someone ISN'T havin' a go and if in doubt - ask.

Does beg the question though (if the new model drivers' in general haven't recognised the earlier cars as family) that why doesn't Nissan doesn't sell a lot to return Z/ZX customers ?

I think I get less than 50% of 350z drivers waving back at me. If they are on a forum they king of understand.

The majority either look away or stare back like I am mad.

The other models always qualify for a flash and a wave.
I think that would be fair. Even funnier when you go up and talk to another 350 owner, when they have no idea of the lineage, they purely drive a car they like.

It's happened every time a new Z/ZX has come out - it's not being snobby - it's called ignorance !
I don't think so much ignorance. Just not aware, if that is different. A lot people buy a car they like, and don't realise. If purchased from a dealer, they tend not to say anything either, pity as it tends to breed the passion, and once that happens that person might be back for another one at some stage.

I was talking about all the school kids who stop and stare!
Kids love Zeds don't they. So often get kids come running up to look at the car in a carpark, or even get out of a car at the gas station, or even better if we're in a convoy, kids will come running to the roadside madly waving.

I was in the Rugeley/Lichfield area today in my 350. Saw a silver 350 coming the other way, tried hard not to wave but seeing as it was Christmas Eve I did. Result - F... A..

as Mike said

majority of 350/370z owners own thier cars as cars and not as icons, mainly cause its a new car and has the looks and performance, which appeal to the mass

if you were in a 350z and waved at a driver of a 240z, you are more than likely to get a wave back as owner of a 240z is likely to know the heritage and is aware of the breed

I used to own oldskool MK1 Golfs etc etc and you'd be shocked how many people would approach me and ask me what car it is and my reply "its a Golf"

general public doesnt even know the VW Golf was made since the mid-70's, all they know is typical MK3/MK4 Golfs which you see everyday

All true but the curious 350/370Z driver might look back in history..........and I'd still wave at them even if only to see them half wave then wonder who the burk is making silly signs at 'em !

That's the point though. Most aren't aware of the history. Being a 350 owner myself, and when I've gone up and talked to another 350 driver in a carpark or gas station, most are completely unaware of the lineage & others aren't aware and don't care.

But good on you for waving at them. If they get enough waves, then it might jolt something inside their cranium to go an investigate why people keep waving.:thumbs:

........with a hatch and roof, hold on, Uncle Pat used to have a GT6 - is that what it is ?

In fact, what we're saying is that modern sports-car drivers know nothing about cars ? Discerning Nissan buyers then ?

What have they bought a Z ?

Love waving at any 2xx - 3xx cars, always great to get a wave from some of the classics.

Flashed and waved at a 300zx Red Targa on the Brighton Road just near the M23 near Hooley the other day and the 300 driver was virtually hanging out of his car waving back!! Must have been the shock! Nice thumbs up and a good blip of the throttle from both side of the road!! Good Timez !

Got to agree that there are still plenty of 350z / 370z owners that dont know the history and are thinking there is something hanging off their car or they have a flat when you flash them!

I always get a wave from fellow 350 owners round my way, there's not many but i know they're mostly forum members in some shape or form so i guess they too feel part of something. I've never had anything from a 370 driver unless it's been a Nismo.
Not seen any 240/260/280 round here but i'd wave, i'd wave my ass off.

That post was 9 years ago, perhaps the ownership has changed to the sociable/enthusiast type.

Holy thread revival Batman!

Youngsters! ;)

Here we go, nothing to do with the age of the people behind the wheel! :boxing:

I think its fair to say that the 350z and 370z are far more common cars given the good production and are still relatively modern. Bearing that in mind most owners won't even know the owners clubs exist of have an interest other than its just a fun car. They probably just find it strange to be waved at by a stranger, I always wave back and acknowledge JDM car owners whatever they're driving as I'm just interested. Only the enthusiasts will wave, its just the same when I'm out in my MR2.

I'm not referring to the age of the drivers but the cars.

So they are now cheaper and owned by privateer enthusiasts not company car owners.

Just my input for what it's worth.

Note the winky smiley at the end of my comment (hopefully) meaning it was mean't to be a joke! :)

We all know there are all sorts of people driving all sorts of cars and it's easy to make generalisations. But I like to think that a lot of Z drivers are aware of the Z heritage and that perhaps some are less wavy than others!
