New Toy

I picked up my new toy yesterday!

I've been looking at a few options since I sold the Sam to Rob last year but Z's seemed to be out of my budget so I've gone to the dark side and bought a Porsche.

1994 968 Sport in Slate grey with just four previous owners and in stunning condition, Sara and I got the train down to Wraysbury near Windsor on Friday and collected it yesterday morning before driving home up the A1.

We did nearly 350 miles yesterday and the car is sublime. Not as raw as the Sam, but just beautiful to drive with so much torque, I love absolutely love it already.

Nice car, I always wanted a 911 at some time in my life but wanted a Z more, but now with age I'm fortunate enough to have both, however I could part with the 911 tomorrow but will never part with the Z.

Use to have one, great cars. Hope its manual!? Lovely chassis balance.
Only made the Sport in a manual Francois. UK only version of the Club Sport essentially, with a comfort package, only made 306 of 'em I believe...

I think they're lacking a few of the mo30(i think) options.

It was a pretty red sport I had. Lovely car. clubsport seats.

I don't understand why the club sports are so much money really, the usual porsche trick of charging for more less.

968 is quite an important car for them as it was going to be the end of the 911 development, just didn't really catch on.

Oh no a Porsche on the Z stand at Donington.

'Comfort' package that's for people my age.

I'm sure it's a fantastic car and good value. Glad you have a toy again - a guy without a toy can be grumpy.

What does your lad think of it?

Won't be at Donny Rob as I've all the gear to bring down so I'll be in a Land Rover, can't ask Sara to do it again!

The comfort bit is lecky windows, central locking and standard sports seats rather than the hard back recaros that the CS had, definitely not old man stuff ;)

I've just done another hundred miles in it with James and he loves it now too, been out to Hawes via ribblehead and a few other fast roads I love round here, and the car is so balanced, the power, torque and handling are just lovely. I've made a good choice.

Well done, it looks in Fantastic condition. I'm sure its way more refined than the last toy!

I bet goes fairly well with a V8 under the hood as well. They're actually not ageing too badly either as some sports cars go, I would say that though as its the same age as me

There's a few porches I have soft spots for but they're all going for bonkers money these days.

The 968 runs a 3 litre engine on just 4 cylinders young Woody.
Likely you are confusing it with the 928 which did indeed have the V8.

Very nice! Never driven a Porsche, but do like them. Heard great things about them over the years.

As Chris said, it's a 4 cylinder 3.0 240 bhp engine, and it is a lot more refined than the old warrior. A heater that warms up nicely and doors that shut with just a gentle push are both novelties, and Bluetooth audio streaming means I can listen to radio 6 music in the car too....

You'd be spot on there, I had no idea! I'm just showing my Porsche ignorance here.

I've just started looking at the differences now, I suppose to the untrained eye they are mistakable until you start looking at the details, different engine and a whole host of other features I'm sure.

Either way it sounds very civilised and great fun JK, enjoy!

I've always fancied a 944 as a run around and the 968 looks a more appealing (for rarity) twist on it. How different is this version from the CS? Is the suspension the same for example?
