Indeed Mr.F. nice steer back on topic

Difficult to value this car due to the Cat C history, how many people will that put off and to what extent will that affect the price realised ?

If this was a genuine 33k mile from new car in original condition then it would have to be seen in the £10/12k+ price range.

Auction guide figures are notoriously fixed on the low side to generate interest although often the lower figure points to the reserve price. At £6k I think this would still be a good buy assuming previous history is not an issue for you.

10 MOTs later surely the Cat C classing is NLA ?

Tell insurance companies that! Many won't insure Cat C / D cars.

You and I know it doesn't matter so much but Jo Public with little knowledge of such things won't know anything about Cat C but alarm bells.

AFAIA the only recent documented high dollar sale of a 280ZX was the fully restored coupe auto which went for (racks brain) £11,400 at auction.

Ive never understood why the insurance companies get so arsey about Cat D right offs, the vast majority are older vehicles that aren't worth much,
and are therefore economic right offs that may only require a new bumper and tail light cluster, and possibly some minimal localised remedial bodywork.
If said car was worth just a £1000 more, it would be repaired and no one bats an eyelid about the accident, but mention Cat D and! ..... loud sound of sucking air through teeth:rofl:

If all the work was done on a cat c/d car is it poss to get it taken off, allways wondered
Sort of. You can get the car inspected by Autolign who work with HPI and have the marker removed, however they do not work with Experian so the insurance marker will still show on any search using Experian.

Depends which facility people use in that respect as to whether the search shows up the marker or not...

That’s wot I thought, one of my Zeds comes up with a question mark, reason being it had its number plate changed but the owner must’ve kept the original plate on a retainer as it has its original plate

How does that work? once cat c/d its registered against the car on the V5, you can have an inspection to say its now good, however its always will be damaged repaired? Even post Vic check it stays?

I guess a service like this

https://www.autolign.co.uk/

is just saying its good to go? I think its still fair for people to know a cars history, it wouldn't put me off.

As cars get older though its got to have less of an impact, as most would have been welded and replacement panels by now.

It's exactly that service Francois, cost around £90 I think, and it is just as I said to have the car shown to be adequately repaired to have the loss marker removed, yet as mentioned earlier only with certain services. And yes the car will always be damaged/repaired. It doesn't mention anything on the V5C irrespective of repair, Autolign inspection or otherwise.
