Wilwood front brakes

Morning all,
I’m looking for a front brake setup and have seen a few willwood kits , I’m just wondering if anyone knows if I will need to upgrade my master cylinder to use these? Also if anyone knows of a uk supplier of the carrier/brake setup?

I think it's preferable to change the master cylinder or you will get a long pedal. I'm not aware of any brackets available in the UK. I'd be very interested if there was.

I'm slowly working on an AP setup if its of interest.

I'm interested.

I've been looking at how to use "off the shelf" wildwood/other callipers and disks with a custom calliper mount. Then use a generic bell, redrilled to fit the zed hub.

I used Dave at BG Developments for my Brembo set up.

Fiat Coupe 4 pot brembos (better than wildwood as they have dust seals) and you can get them used for 100-200 quid.

BG Development made my adapters up and I used an AP 330mm 2 piece disk with custom bell.

Obviously way too big for anything under 17's (might squeeze behind some 16's). They would happily make some conversions up for a smaller disk I would imagine. OR use a stock disk and make an adapters to suit those (I may look into this but I think standard brakes on my current car will suffice - for now).

Options at the minute, in order of cost

an off the shelf disc, 280mm with the right offset, this will just need re drilling, AP cp5040 calipers, 1155 pads, bespoke caliper bracket. Discs are brembo.

AP 280mm floating disc, bespoke bells, bespoke bracket, cp5040 calipers, 1155/ds3000 pads, I have spoken to BG about this an option, along with a couple others.

I'm sticking at 280mm as they'll clear most 14" wheels with the 5040's. Just. Same spec as 1300kg 500bhp rally/tarmac cars, so its upto the job.

I`ll be putting a front vented disc set up for Zs with the 260z/280z hubs in 2 or 3 weeks ( no brackets needed, direct fit ) still working on the 240z hub set up, I`ll put some photos on if anybody is interested

Not sure but I'm guessing they are the same diameter as the 240 disk. I found my old setup in the workshop yesterday that also uses the 280zx sliding calliper's. The braking was improved but I destroyed them on my first track day. There is also the problem of having to drill out the threads in the strut so no going back.

Ok, a quick google shows them to be 250 ish mm so probably the same as stock brakes as you say.

Not big enough to work with the Brembo Fiat brakes, as they use a stock 305mm disc so probably need something around that.

Hi woody, how will they vary from the current kits?

I am using 280x22mm vented rotors off early 635/735i bimmer.,with Wilwood Superlite 4 pot callipers. These have been brilliant on road and track.I upgraded the M.C.to the 280zx 15/16" one to compensate. These calipers fit directly to the strut - you just need a 2mm washer to centre them over the rotor,or as I did, get some spacers inserted into the caliper mounting holes.I wanted to keep the drums on the back, and so by choosing the small diameter piston Superlights ,I was able to make them work with the stock proportioning valve.I did have to skim a small amount off the diameter of the wheel hub to have them fit snugly into the rotor top hat.
Bear in mind these are fitted to a 260z coupe with a mildly breathed on L28,so might not be a big enough upgrade if you have big horsepower and race your car.I used to get a maximum of 4 laps from the stock brakes, with a pad upgrade, before fade set in.Less than ideal when our races are 6-8 laps.Would also wear out a set of pads in 1 race meeting.By comparison the pads in the Wilwoods last forever, being both way thicker and greater area.and have been fade free, even when getting thin.

That's good timing. My car has Superlites too but I've yet to investigate. I'm hoping to inspect them in the next weekend or 2. I might need some help to identify the exact type.

How easy is it to come by replacement pads in the UK?
