Door mouldings (stainless steel plus rubber strip) are still available new via our Nissan contacts in the UK...

Checked these out with Nissan this morning. At the moment the RH moulding for 2 seater is in stock in the UK and we can do it for £77.00 + VAT - discounted from Nissan list price.
However, whereas the LH used to be the same price, a recent computer upgrade by Nissan has given the excuse to ramp the price up (along with many other parts) - not just by a reasonable percentage but (even after our discount to you) £181.84 + VAT and 3 weeks from Japan.
USA supplier lists separate part for 70-72 and 73-78 whereas UK has one part number for all. The 70-72 version is £74.95 + VAT per side if we import for you but the 73-78 version is now double that!
Can't get any logical response from Nissan over recent unrealistic price increases - maybe they are cashing in on the increased value of early cars where they still have parts available (of which there are many more than you might expect for a car approaching its half centenary).

Just had a discussion with my USA guy and they can't currently get any of the mouldings. He also clarified the difference on the 70-72 - they have a chrome end whereas all ours (and their late version) are black plastic. Fit will be the same.

Cheers for that, I've sent you a PM :)

Just change the rubber
Rubber available from Woolies just need to cut the wire clips holding it to the chrome trim

Oh I might look into that then.. I figured the rubber was moulded into the chrome trim and therefore I'd need the full replacement.

are you actually pleased with the car? does it run well? Body OK? What you were expecting?

If I'm honest I haven't actually had any chance to play with it! It's been in the garage since I got it, as I've been pretty busy with work. Haven't even had a chance to put it in for an MOT even though I think it's in a good position to try!

Body is much better than I was expecting, there's some areas of rust but it seems very exclusive to those areas, most areas are really solid. I've not decided on what to do with the rusty areas as they're not terrible, but they'll likely need replacing soon so I figure I'l get it done as soon as I can.

Haven't had a chance to drive it properly yet though :-( !

MOT Pass!

So I finally got round to getting the car MOT'd, I've been annoyingly busy with work which means the car has taken a back seat - It's about a 5 week wait post-MOT to get the car registered so I was really hoping to get it done ASAP. The one weekend I had off was scuppered when the car didn't fit on the trailer!

So eventually got the car back on a trailer and taken for the MOT. Luckily it didn't need a whole lot of work:

-Windscreen Washer Jets
-Rear Lights w/ Indicators, solid Brake Light
-Handbrake adjustment (Rear drivers side was binding)
-Horn reconnecting
-Door Mirrors fixed

In all, very minor things which I was very grateful for!

Hired a new (bigger trailer) and had it MOT'd yesterday.

The car passed with only 2 advisories:

-Minor rust on rear drivers sill
-Engine oil leak

Very very happy with the results as I am already aware of the rust and the oil leak! No nasty surprises, thankfully!

Next steps are to get the car registered, and then I'll get hold of a V5. I'll be then able to get my license plates and (finally) be able to drive it!

Excellent!
Interested to know how deep the dvla want to dig regarding the modifications when it comes to registering. Do they want evidence, photo or otherwise of any mods or are you just telling them it’s standard and hoping for the best?
Only being nosy as I’ll be in a similar situation in a couple of years

I can't really see them having the man power or technical resources/appetite to troll through and catalog thousands if not millions of images.

The bigger issue is telling them no mods, then having an accident and an insurance valuation bod spotting the discretely hidden twin turbo LS7 , Tremec gearbox and Ford 9 ich

If you don’t mind, can I ask how much it cost to import from the States, and how much you paid for the car ?
I’m just starting my search and that is a very nice car

Haha, fair point. We did have to send in pictures when we reclassified our VW T5 as a camper van though with dvla

I wasn't planning on telling them about the modifications to be honest.

All modifications are declared on the insurance :)

Sure, PM me and I'll dig through the costings individually when I get a chance. It was surprisingly more expensive than I had originally thought, the current exchange rate didn't help.

Jay, you did know you could have driven it to the MoT station I hope!

Edit: as long as it was insured ...

It was insured! But no numberplates and I figured I'd be attracting a lot of unwelcome attention, so I thought for the sake of £60 I'd rent a trailer :)

Ah, the delights of the private garage, stacked to the rafters, quite literally in this case, with c**p..... i mean stuff!!

Nice car by the way

The r1200gs..... one of the few things i've bought new, that bmw bought back due to 3 gearboxes, leaking final drives and ****** servo brakes.

Ha. Doesnt sound like you had the best experience!

The garage there is relatively tidy.. It's seen much worse states, especially as there's a stripped Mx5 in the back that had all it's goodies spread across the walls. Luckily all of that has now fitted into the shed.
