Differential Mount Assembly

Hi all, I need reminding please of what the threaded holes are for marked 'A' on my 1970 240Z differential mount . Also, am I correct in saying that the small steel plate marked 'B' goes between the mount and the insulator - it's been some time since I dismantled it but I'm pretty sure it does. Thanks

I've never seen the "A" bolt holes uses and I've never seen the spacer plate for the mount. Are these just specific to series 1 cars?

The very earliest 240Zs (to 06/71) used a different mount and crossmember and the driveshafts were angled backwards. This was quickly revised to parallel shafts and the later mount. As far as I am aware, the early mount is now no longer available and most cars will have been converted to the later configuration to bring the driveshafts into the preferred position...
The early moustache bar was also a different part number, but the later revision was listed as a "conditional" retro fit for the early version
The plate is not shown as a part in the parts book, but there is a substantial damper plate below which is often left off / gone missing as the years have passed.

The threaded holes marked 'A' on your photo are midway mounting points for the exhaust tube(s).

You will notice that they correspond to the exhaust clearance notches in the crossmember. The twin pipe exhaust system used as stock equipment on the S20-powered cars (432 and 432-R) and available as an extra-cost showroom option on L20A and L24-powered models in the Japanese market used both mounting points and both cutouts in the crossmember. The single pipe systems (as seen on Export market cars) only used the left hand side cutout and mount point.

Many cars lost the bolt-on exhaust hanger mounts over the years, as the bonded rubber failed and/or they rotted away. They were S30-series Z specific, so tended not to get replaced.

Interesting. Every day's a school day.

Any idea why the exhaust recesses were different left to right? I would assume both pipes were the same size?

Part of the transition from horizontal pairing (at manifold and resonator) to vertical pairing (in and out of rear box). The R/H pipe goes under the L/H pipe.

So, both same diameter, but Wun Hung Lo...

Many thanks for the replies.

Does the attached look like the correct assembly drawing then - vertical bolt no. 14 if so I guess is the one that fits into the mount ?

Still stumped about the small steel plate though - any ideas where it could have come from ?
