Race opportunity

Received this today might be quite a good opportunity anyone who is interested let me know

Exciting news for 2017 Season

Back in late August I circulated an e-mail after an article appeared in Autosport on August 11th.

During the interim months I have been working on putting together dates where small groups can race together. My aim is not to ‘poach’ cars from other Series/Championships but to give groups of similar cars and like minded people the opportunity to go out there and race and have fun. Ideal for smaller cc cars that are always looking in their mirrors or cars that perhaps do not fit easily in class structure of present Series/Championships or even cars hidden away in garages because there is absolutely nowhere for them to race at present.

These groups will be brought together in an ‘Association’ so there will be no ‘new Club’ as such although the Association will be MSA recognized so that it can be responsible for its own Series but will not be able to run its own Race Meetings per se. Each group will be organized by an individual who will look after that particular group and also be responsible for drafting some kind of rules and regulations for the competing cars. By careful liaison with Race Meeting organizers over practice and races the costs will be kept to a bare minimum and by this way small groups can start to race whereas before that would not have been possible. So what is the minimum, well 6 to 8 cars would be a starting point.

You will find below the list of dates where we have the opportunity of having races. Some are classic orientated more than others and these are indicated accordingly.

So I now need to know who might be interested. No commitment at this stage but if you think you can get a group of cars together (and be responsible for them!) then just contact me as below.

New British Classic Challenge for 2017

This is also a new concept for 2017 and is aimed as a ‘Team’ Challenge for British marques.

This idea grew out of the initial thought of having some Sunbeam v Triumph Challenge races. It has now been opened up to any British made car built prior to 1980 although suitable 1980s cars will be considered but run in an invitation class.

The idea is still in the formation mode but I have put together some ‘basic’ ideas on cars and class structure which will include how the ‘teams’ would qualify for awards.

If interested then just e-mail me as below and I will gladly send you my initial thoughts for your comments.

June 4th – Classic & Modern Motorsport Festival at Mallory Park

I am trying to put together a day of varied motorsport activities (bikes, cars, karts etc) for both classic and more modern machinery. I would dearly love to hear from anybody who would like to participate in this meeting. Formula Fords (being the 50th anniversary) would be great and I can well remember the Star of Mallory races many years ago. Put together your own ‘one off’ race to celebrate the day. Just contact me as below but be quick as I know time will fill up fast!

Date invites for 2017

March 25th – Oulton Park

April 8th/9th – Snetterton

April 23rd – Silverstone (National)*

April 29th/30th – Historic Zandvoort Trophy weekend

British Weekend at Zandvoort, July 8th/9th 2017

The Circuit will be orgaising a ‘British’ weekend so if any of you want to go to this lovely Dutch Circuit (which is easy to get to) then do drop mean e-mail. It is envisaged that the British Classic Challenge will be going and FISCAR is already committed to go.

And now to 2018!!

Advanced warning that there will be a Sebring Trip in February 2018, although there will also be the opportunity of Daytona again in November 2017. Sebring will be combined with a big event in the Caribbean during that month. It will also have races for both classic and more modern cars. More details will appear early next year but if you want to be the first to know then do drop me an e-mail.

If you want any help on any subject or wish to know more about anything then do not hesitate to contact me, preferably by e-mail but I can also be contacted on the telephone most afternoons and evenings.

Finally, as I do not envisage another e-mail before Xmas then may I wish you all the compliments of the season and a successful 2017 racing season ahead.

So :

a) I don't own a British car
b) no French races - it aint far to come
c) what are the minimum regs regarding cars ie roll-cage, extinguisher etc ?

If its "recognised by the MSA" and wheel to wheel racing then it will be to the MSA blue book standards https://www.msauk.org/assets/bluebook2017completevlow-res.pdf

.... National B "race" licence, min FIA/MSA bolt in roll cage or multi point weld in to the regs, FIA/MSA race harness, FIA/MSA extinguisher (poss hand held, poss plumbed in)
Isolator, battery box, possibly Hans unit, Full FIA/MSA race suit, gloves boots, helmet etc etc etc.

This is very much an idea that Richard has put out there but knowing him I would very much expect it to flourish.
A French race would be very appealing and something that could be put forward and the idea of 6 or more Zs on a grid sounds great to me what better way to raise the profile of the marque and dare I suggest it the club.
Regs would have to be as per MSA as it will be under their umbrella.
Regarding British cars that appears to be for a challenge race however I would have thought if we had 6 or more Zs prepared to regularly compete an entry could be negotiated.
Anyway sounds interesting to me.

Thanks Moriarty....so a hefty investment to begin with.

Steve - if the series hopped rthe Channel it would need to conform to FIA regs - no ? Anything on top of the MSA's then ?

Sure we could find a few Zs here to partake if it was 1x or 2x races per year so the Brits could stock up on decent booze !:D

We have decent booze here Sean - it's called 'real' ale!

I think it would be easier to try to get members to do decent track-days. Racing is a whole lot more serious, expensive and far more of a commitment/risk.

You can run on the continent to MSA regs not FIA if a recognised series as per support races at SPA

Agreed on the track-days but there are cars out there willing to run a few races in the year without being obliged to fulfill a complete season.

This is an open and popular series, one can even race as an invitee :

Already 3x Zs have run in this so they're not anti-Jap.

Rob, I was referring to juice >10°

I know a charming gentleman in a Château producing some excellent cognac and pineau that you once saw on TV entertaining James May with Champagne.

Not far from Angouême nor the Beltoise family circuit....
