Just got some photo's of the other car that's on its way. I kind of bid on this one without really looking at the pictures. In my defence, only 4 pictures were provided, they were all next to useless and were far to close up to see what was going on. The auction ended 5 mins after I first saw the listing so I just stuck a bid in and sat down for tea. Shortly after, my phone binged to say I had won. Not really sure if I can class it as a win now I've seen the pictures from the shipper but ha ho, such is life. It certainly has more patina than the silver one but at least it looks like its seen no rain based on the bare metal. And its still licenced so was still actually in use.

Anyway. Here's a pic to give you an idea of what I've let myself in for.

Right up your street John use and park it anywhere, i think people will keep away in the multi story parking lots, its got everything patina, left hooker (cool) 2.8 engine you'll get loads of attention plus its not worth as much

Just wax it John and use it nice Ratsun look as Terry said no need to worry where you park it.

The rear arch and dogleg look good and even where the paints removed it's solId, Ratsun all the way! :)

Thanks for all the encouraging comments. This car it my first venture into 280z's so not really made my mind up what to do with it. If I look past the missing paint it does look straight with nice panel fit and shut lines and I can't see any rot. I'm am considering just getting the outside repainted in an easygoing colour like white. Lower and fit my bronze wheels. Fibreglass bumpers. Black leather interior. Usual mechanical refresh and just make it a driver car.

If that car park is anything to go by, it looks like the zeds are the most popular car to bring over.

With the car well on the way now and due in on the 22nd, I got an invoice from the shippers. The car has come from Susanville in the upper area of California and road transport was a bit of a killer. Came out at £1368 with todays exchange rate. On top of that there's the uk fees which will be quite high as they only got 3 cars in the container this time plus the 5% duty so this one will go over the £2k mark to get it over here. Some come just under but they will need to be very close to the port for that to happen. Mike got mine to the port for $600 last week which was less than I could get.

Boat has arrived but its not where I expected. If didn't go to Felixstowe as expected but Thames gateway which is only a couple of miles from my house. I'm hoping I can pick it up from there but I suspect the container will now go by road to Felixstowe for me to pick up.

And that was for 2 cars...$300 each. Let me know if you need help with a in-state transport in the future...I can make some calls for you and try to get a better price.:thumbs:

Sorry, yes 2 cars on 1 truck for $600. I would think it made no major difference to them that it was 2 or 1? I'll give you a bell on the next, thanks, as the road transport makes a big difference and the shippers prices appear to have gone up.

Started on this one last Sunday as I need to make some room for an immanent arrival.

Finished striping the underside of the car and also removed the dash as I'm going to do a RHD conversion while its apart. I had to cut out and replace a large section of the floor rail but that's the only rot I've found on the car so far. Cleaned the entire underside with thinners and then gave it all a coat of Gravitex stone chip to seal it followed by a coat of paint. This is the new colour the car will be. Its a Vauxhall colour. Not sure of the name but you see it quite a lot on the new corsa's.

Found a spare couple of hours this afternoon so decided to attack the engine bay. fitst things to go were the extra brackets the 280z has. Followed quickly by all the cable support clips then the brake line mounts. As I'm converting to RHD the battery tray was next which then gave me access to a bit dent which I proceeded to straighten out. After a quick chat to Mike, who visited the workshop at just the right time, I came to the conclusion the loom was far too complicated for this build so that went next. With the engine bay looking a whole lot cleaner I set about removing the LHD peddle plate. Got 3/4 of the way there but found I couldn't get access to the last few spot welds so I'll continue tomorrow with my right angle drill.

I'm happy with the progress and cant wait to start fitting the RHD peddle panel tomorrow.

PS. also picked up another load of replated hardware.
