Octane 240Z article

Got my copy of Octane through the post yesterday, it has a 7 page item about the 240Z, written by Stephen Bayley. The car they photographed is a LHD modified 240. The article deals mainly with the design and ethos of the car, I'm sure those who know more than I can comment on its accuracy.

Again a nice article, with a well presented car, should help raise the profile of the marque to all the Johnny Classic-Punter types out there.

Will post a few pics later

If anyone would care to sort me out a copy please - I was over last weekend but never saw it despite looking.

Looking carefully, I can see the words "Mr. K" and "Albrecht Goertz" on the pages pictured above. So - likely more of the same old self-reinforcing regurgitation then...

It's the same old re-hashed Halberstam, half-baked USA-centric nonsense. Goertz, Katayama (a "successful rally driver" no less...), "240Z" where it should be 'S30', "Datsun" where it should be 'Nissan', etc etc etc.

He apparently needed Tumminelli's 2014 book to tell him (in English) that Satoru Nozaki styled Toyota's 2000GT, as though it was a mystery in Japan before that. He could have seen Nozaki's styling sketches in any number of Japanese publications before that if he'd looked properly, and even with an English text in Shin Yoshikawa's 2002 book.

He's read all the other English language stuff out there, swallowed it whole and regurgitated it along with a smattering of pseudo Japanese twaddle ("Zen", "Nemawashi", "Jishu-kisei", like he knows what he's talking about...) and come up with nothing new. No new understanding of the circumstances, context and politics surrounding the creation of the car and no enlightening critique of the product itself.

Hack's work.

Did anyone see November's Octane?

Well done on getting you car magazine featured, and welcome to the forum.
I had a similar experience a number of years ago and was happy to see my car in print
I didnt buy the magazine myself cos Im a tight sod but the pictures in the scan looked good.
There are a couple of biggish meets/shows already featured on the forum for 2016. Japfest and the Samuri gathering. They are both a long way from Falmouth but as you own a "rare breed" car you will need to travel to find others.
Im sure you will be made very welcome at both meets.especially as your car is "new" to the club scene.
Of course there will be the odd person there who will tell you that some of your nuts n bolts are not genuine factory items . Most of us arent like that tho.:D

What did you think of the article? More specifically the text content, rather than the nice photos...?
Maybe you could save the interrogation for later Albrecht as this is philbrads first forum post since joining 5 years ago..You have already made your views on the article clear......

Link to the meets/shows.......

The pictures were the best part of the article, the rest was very disappointing especially as it was in Octane (normally a good mag).

Journalistic waffle IMO.
