Well would like to say had a good Saturday in the garage but i didn't  slowly taking the patch thats been welded on previously :( as you can see rusted between what was existing and the patch repair also rusted through where the bonnet hinge goes .

Only thing to do now is cut all offending areas out and remake need to do this before i can fit my new airtime  started cutting part of it out don't want to cut more out than i need too

Must keep smiling :D:rolleyes:

Hi Derrick, a bodger with welding equipment is a nightmare to follow. I saw some dodgy stuff on my old car, in fact some of the repairs were just bolted-on!

I know you are a determined and resourceful guy but this car is going to test your resilience. Is the other side the same?

Derrick I have to say mate every time I see this thread pop up that you inspire me.

My car is a left hooker and fairly rust free after having some small bits sorted earlier this year, and I didn't have the confidence to tackle some other bits that need doing - but you've shown me that where there is a will there is a way, so over the winter I'm going to tackle some of those little jobs that I had intended to leave to the professionals. Before I thought they were too big for me, now it's clear that with the right mindset you can achieve anything you need to.

Hi Jon good to think I've inspired someone ,hope you get those little bits sorted out sometimes I'm not sure how I'm going to do something so i have a beer and sit and look at what i want to do and try and sort it out before i start .Somtimes its the challenge i like  But there is a feeling of great satisfaction when you do sort it your self imo

Good luck with sorting you car to how you want it ,thanks again for you comments

Same panel from the side with plate weld to it for bumper fixing.

Impressive Derrick, looking good.
I've got similar issues with my inner wings, in that they've corroded along the chassis tube. Cutting it all out and butt welding a new lower inner wing is a recipe for heat distortion and ripples in such a flat area of panel. I've got a few alternative ideas, will drop you a PM with some sketches when I get back off my hols. Poss compare notes?
Cheers

Small update haven't worked on the 260z for a while as I've been waiting till i received the new chassis rails from the states through Mjp thanks Mike they've arrived  didn't want too cut any more of car until i got these parts so i can mark up key reference points i.e. tie bar brackets . also got some new floor rails from Woody thanks Andy look great and super strong  , also got driver-side lower rear repair panel which i didn't want to fit until i had rear valence ,i now have that too I've also made the air tubes for both sides.

So no excuses now must get out in the garage and get cutting and weld in the new panels
