No worries Debbie, I'm not that precious about it. :p

It's good to see your car coming together.

Thanks for that Andy, but have sorted out tyres now. Needed to move the car so went 195 as they were available. Cheers all the same.

Done a bit more whilst in the country, starting to look like a car again. The nice guy from Autoglass came and fitted my screen for me.

The trims are a little tight fitting in the clips so will probably stick them back on as don't want to crack the screen by forcing them. Whilst Mr Autoglass was about I asked him if anything could be done with the rear side windows, the black ceramic frit boarder around the edge of the glass had worn off in places. He gave me a bottle of the primer he used when fitting the new screen and said it would fix the problem as the stuff is UV proof. Its called Betaprimer 5504G made by DOW Automotive Systems. It seems to have done the job, they look like new now, you put the stuff on with a giant cotton bud.

The following day fitted the engine, those four bolts to the gearbox housing were a pain in the backside to locate. But in the end after 14 years on an engine stand the engine was back where it belonged.

How long has this build taken so far? Certainly going to be mint!

Have you turned attention to any of the interior? This is a stunning build, can't wait to see more :)

Hi All

Mike, no probe its a Nissan colour 649 silver blueish.

How long has this taken - now thats a great question. We went on honeymoon in it back in 1994, it developed terminal rust so was taken off the road early 1996. Life just got in the way for quite a while but still tinkered. Only really got serious about fixing it up in the last 3 years or so. Too damn long!

Really tidy looking motor and I can't wait for us all to be next to each other on future stands :D The return of the 280zx to the show scene is long overdue :D

Fantastic, you must be in heaven putting it back together.

I do like the blue cam-cover too with the Silver.

Thanks all for your comments so far. Will be great to see all these ZX's, looking forward to seeing one on the stand at the NEC!

Got a few more bits off for powder coating and hopefully fit a later spec steering pump to go with the steering rack conversion. The rocker cover has had to go back for re-coating due to an unfortunate incident. Should all be done for when I get back.

I've yet to start the interior Mrs H. But it will stay as original as possible for now, the forward cabin panels are in good condition and have managed to source some new old stock original seat covers in the silver blue combination. However, the boot panels are all knackered and peeling off the backing, so will probably recover them in a dove grey vinyl. It should not look too bad against the original colours in the front and it matches the plastic bits.

Had a quote from Coverdale carpets who say they can do the complete carpet sets for a 280ZX 2 seater. This includes the front set, boot and the parcel shelf plus the other bits and pieces in the rear. They do various options from a polypropylene to a luxury wool range (prices to match!). The colour ranges look pretty good too but they are not cheep. Has anyone used them if so what was the quality like?

Cheers

After having carpet samples from various places the coverdale is the best. That extra £100 for the better quality carpet seems worth it. £160 and £270 is what they quoted me. Compared with other suppliers carpet prices its basically getting the trimming and finishing for free

Oh yes. I should add that thier vinyl is not too clever but should be ok on the pretty flat panels that wont get in the sun much
