Looks great, you've done a brilliant job.

Derrick, it looks fantastically clean.

Do you have a picture of a brand new engine bay?

It would be interesting to compare them :)

Coming long quickly now

Thanks Ian look forward to seeing your good luck for when you start :cheers::D
Thanks, Mine will have to be done in record time, will only have about two weeks to strp the front end, remove the engine and everything in the bay, take it to bare metal, seam weld it, spray it, fit my coilovers and build it all back up.

Looking forward to it though.

Its very quiet tonight isn't it. Only giving myself two weeks as I work away from home most of the year and I'll only have 4-5 weeks off when I do the work. I need to leave some time to drive the thing aswell as work on it and if I say two weeks to do everything then I might end up getting it done in less than 3.

Re quiet on Forum - well a lot of people get concerned about that but it doesn't bother me.

It's healthy that folks have a life outside the Z club

Ian, if you only have a short time for your 260Z be careful not to take it off the road and end up not driving it for a while. That car has spent long enough having a 'makeover' poor thing, she wants to party

Derrick, please don't see this as criticism but I was wondering how Datsun finished off the dividing line between engine bay colour and floor colour. You have 'blended' it in, would it have been a defined line originally?

Yeah, I definitly want to drive it as much as possible.

Originally before I bought the car the plan was to take it off the road for a few years and do everything I had planned including sticking an RB26 in it but I didn't expect it to be so good to drive in its nearly stock form. I love driving it so there no way I could now have it off the road now.

Ian my advice would be keep it original work on the engine you have a word with mr f [Mike Feeney at mjp he will tell you what you need and possible supply only my thought,as their are a lot of hybrids about don't really know if you would be devaluing your car. If you are looking for something to race and keep then fine.:thumbs:GOOD LUCK :D

Good point Rob about the defined line between paint on underside of engine bay and start of under seal:eek: think i might have to rectify this thanks of pointing it out

hi Rob after talking to certain people who work in body shops they think datsun would have blended paint and underseal as i have, as they would not have wanted to waste time or money on some one masking it off still no sure:unsure:

Looking good. Very good.

I noticed you did a sunroof infill on this car. Any tips? My 260 has an aftermarket sunroof I want to fill in, and some rust around the edges, so I'll need to cut it out a little further. I have a donor roof and headlining. I am thinking joddle the edge of the roof in the car, sit the infill on that and plug weld every 4" or so? Obviously concerned about warping. Have heard of people bonding them in, but seems a bit, well, ****. Also concerned joddling will flatten the curve of the roof somewhat? How did you do yours?

hI Tim i did joggle my roof, what i did was to joggle the straight edges of the sunroof and then flatten the edges of the corners with a hammer and dolly so it is level with the sides that are joggled. then cut new panel to fit opening leaving a small gap between step where joggled and new panel. I then spot welded in the corners first and then about every 8 inches just one spot at a time then left it to cool then spot welded in the middle between first welds let the roof cool and do the same again until you have stitch all together it dose take alot of time with letting the roof cool properly then i carefully grounded the welds flat. then fitted new bracing panel from windscreen to tailgate from donor car ,just need slight filler work to make good.it was the first time I've done this but it worked well for me, good luck with your don't rush it  Derrick
