what welder

hi george i have not done any welding before this ,guy came to do the work for me brought all his kit and never came back .so the only option for me was to teach myself with his kit
made lots of junk before starting on car.not easy to start but if you want you will, so good when you do your first good weld, better than paying somebody ,as for welder i would go for a mig with gas more control for thin plate,ps was it you i sold 280 gearbox to hope it was ok:thumbs:Derrick

Yes Derrick it was me, how are the chickens?

Haha I dont have much luck with gearboxes, the Z experts on here identified it as not a 280ZX box but from something else like a Laurel so wasnt going to be up for the job I wanted it for. You werent to know that though.

Thanks for the advice on the welding, you really pick things up quickly!

You're a top bloke Derrick, no problem, I new it was going to be of no fault of yours and an honest mistake after I had met you.

I remember seeing Derricks car a couple of years ago and was amazed at the time his attention to detail, he showed me some engine parts that he restored that looked like new!!! Looking forward to more pics, this car is going to be a good contender for a concurs prize.

not sure how im going to do this one metal so much thinner.:eek::rofl:

CNV00128_zps85fe37c1.jpg

thought about trying to weld this on and cutting old metal off afterwards:eek: decided to bend L SHAPE section the length of scuttle panel as both sides curve in different ways
cut away old rusty metal, tack welded L section then cut small Vs every 3 inches or where needed to form the right curves tack each one as i went along very tricky:banghead:
Once this was done repaired the corners:):):):D
