Can you actually put 195/65's on a ten inch wheel????

Oh no, here we go again:eek:...soon we will have others saying that a 195 will only work on a 6J slot mag:rolleyes:..

In the case above, the 195's have been streeeeetched to fit the 10J wheel, but they do fit:thumbs:. I have seen heaps of drift cars doing their stuff with same tyre/wheel set up and tyres remained safely mounted on the wheels...and we all know how demanding drifting can be on tyres.

IMO some aspects of this car are good some stupid.

Basically it seems to have been built for image/show rather than a need.

Rear spoiler is good and as far as I know that size/angle works well on an S30.

Wheel/Tyre combo stupid and no need for those horrible rear arches.

Oil cooler very vulnerable and if no cut-out behind it would be limited in efficiency.

Oh well different generation I suppose.

I agree with you Rob I must be getting old.

I am old - it sucks !

And this :

Before you move on to the next story, or head to the comments section – take a minute to really appreciate the thought and hard work that goes into creating a car like this. The countless hours researching and sourcing parts, the never ending maintenance that goes into an older car etc.

I can appreciate the hours, the work, the money ? (although it screams 'budget') but why.......?

And "never-ending maintenance" ? It's an effing Nissan for chrissakes - you only have to add fuel and change the oil once a year - ignorant journalist !

Strong words there...if you dont like something or disagree with its application, can you call it "stupid" ? Please explain yourself...:devil:

The car ^^ is not a racer,,,,when will some folk get to grips that not everyone wants to have a fibreglass bodied s30 to drive fast round a track or fast roads etc. Its a style statement [ form over function] and one that clearly you dont appreciate ( which incidentally is not a problem)....Admittedly the above car is not everyone's cup of tea but to call it stupid ???.

Different folk = different tastes , but if you dont like something, does it make it stupid ??

For example there are divided opinions in the Z community on stuffing a s30 with modern turbo engines,,,then there are folk who install massive 18" alloys ? what about the z32's who have acres of fibgrelass kits ..I dont like the above styling /modifications but I equally dont go round labelling them as s............:D

This is a motor vehicle and I assume it's used on the public roads - the write-up states that it's used regularly. I can't imagine how this car could be driven safely with virtually no front suspension travel and tyres that are not designed to be fitted on wheels of that width. The legality of such a vehicle must be in question.

In my view that is stupid. It's not an ornament, sculpture or painting.

strangely enough Toyo's recommendations for 195/65x14 are 5.5" to 7" rim with 6" being the optimum and maybe they know their own products. yes you can fit them but it doesn't make it right!! drift guys use the tyre combinations they choose to allow progressive drift not ultimate handling

But surely its evident from the stance and tyre fitment that the above car is not set up for ultimate handling, more the looks:confused:. There is no question that 195 would probably work best on a 6-7J wheel and with same size tyre on a 10J wheel handling will be compromised...

But lets step back and look at the car....its been built for its looks and not the way it handles? And that tyre combo isnt illegal I assume , otherwise the local plod /MOT guys would be on his case:confused:

I think flared arches quite suit an S30, but I think the car in the below image does it better. One of my favourites this...

.

Lets look at most of the modified BMW's, VW's, Pugs, Saxos, other euro s**t boxes that have been lowered and stuffed with 18" , 19 " alloys

Suspension travel = NIL
Wheel & Tyre combo = outside manufacturers parameters & specification
Used on public roads = 24/7

And we havent looked at "horrible rear arches" or body kits yet...

Legality ???

So does your view externd to ALL of the above too ??

Yes it does, that car Dale showed is a better job. There is a Metro locally that I see on the road and it's really low with stretched tyres. It bounces down the road! I laugh every time I see it but also worry about it's ability to brake safely on a bumpy road.

I don't understand 'form before function'. Cars like J Palmer's are low and have big wheels but they perform too.

But I do realise that many young folks would not understand my track-day car either.

when it is so easy to have form and function why throw function out of the window? as for the tyre legality it has been reported in the tyre trade press that accident investigators have cited WRONG SIZE TYRE TO RIM FITMENT as a contributory factor in several accidents! try then telling your insurance company to pay out for the school kids you mowed down at the bus stop! there are also discussions going on to make 'improved' sports tyres i.e. Toyo r888, yoko ao48 etc illegal for road use. i personally agree with this because this type of tyre and standing water is an instant recipe for aquaplaning and chucking the car off the road.

And all those millions of *****drivers with innocent passengers driving too fast/close in the wet with woefully inadequate legal 1.6mm limit tyres and all those drivers with the legal budget tyres with poorer dry grip and lesser stopping distances and wouldn't it be nice to be able to sue the government for every last penny for every puddle/hole and bit of standing water that any tyre would aquaplane/hydroplane on(they should all be executed!).Never had a problem in the wet(not torrential rain where any tyre would suffer) with any on the edge? tyre but then again driving to the conditions isn't everyones forte, perhaps implanted chips might help.Personally i think it should be made a legality to use 3 types of high performance expensive tyres depending on conditions on that day high performance soft deep grooves for wet, extra extra soft for dry and super soft multi siped/block for winter.Genuinely not having a dig but where does it stop and yes i think those stretched tyres look daft but i digress.

I'd like to know how the car feels on a tyre that stretched, I guess the stretch alters the deflection in the sidewall? however its got 65 profile rubber fitted. I'd be surprised if it handles/feels worse than a car running 17"+wheels with <40 section rubber, all other things being equal it should be better.

Its too much of a stretch IMO, 195 on a 8j rim will sit square and look better.

Opinions are like ars£&oles, eveyone's got one.

Yes it does, that car .

So they ^^^ are all stupid too??:rolleyes:. As you may have noticed, I resent the use of the word stupid in this context. If you dont like something, surely its no reason to class it stupid ?

Dale showed is a better job. T.

But it has the same horrible rear arches that you detest:confused:

Thats quite patronising isnt it ? Not all young folk are into low VW , saxos etc..most would understand the track day car, surely whats so complicated about it ? To go fast, you need to be more powerful and less lighter what else?

Hmm, lets see fitting trackday tyres on a road car
1) isnt illegal (as yet but will be soon)
2) dangerous depending on weather conditions as pointed above
3) Not recommended by OEM's
4) encourage fast road driving on public roads
5) Not approved by Insurance company

All the same negative arguments as the stretched look ( that some class as stupid)...so whats the verdict on these given that we have many forum users who run 048's, R888's on their cars?:p
