The August 2009 issue of OCTANE Magazine ( already on sale ) carries a very nicely photographed five page feature on Kevin Bristow's ex-Works 1971 Datsun 240Z rally car.

This car debuted on the 1971 RAC Rally here in the UK, crewed by East African Safari Rally-winning team Edgar Herrmann and Hans Schuller. Kevin has recently completed a marathon restoration that he took to extraordinary levels, and the article - written by Paul Hardiman and photographed in a studio by John Colley - describes the "Incredible, sensitive restoration of a unique survivor".

It's nice to see a genuine Works-built 240Z being featured in the pages of a mainstream - and fairly swanky - magazine such as OCTANE. Kevin's car is rubbing shoulders in the pages with some pretty illustrious company.....

Definitely worth picking up this mag if you have an interest in the Works cars, and I think it is worth trying to encourage magazines like this to cover more early Z history. If they get a good reaction then we will hopefully see more in the future.....

Picked one up whilst trying to kill some time in Heathrow airport Sunday - it is a nice article and the photo's do make it look like a scale model.

I went up to Chatsworth on the Saturday to see Kevin and his car. It is an absolutely amazing peice of work and impressed me way beyond my expectations.
Kevin deserves all the praise and admiration he gets for such a well thought out and sympathetic restoration - and he's not scared of getting it dirty either.

This is my new favorite Z, for me it is special for 3 reasons -

It's a 71 car so has the light weight shell and panels.
It's one of the RAC cars.
It's so accurate.

Good, will pick up a copy.

Even though I could not read the Japanese text in an old issue of Nostaligc Hero magazine, it was just great staring at the photos of this car, even though at that time the engine was not in.

Sean, unfortunately I can not locate 3 copies. Went to a few places this weekend (over 7 newsagents in 5 mile radius) and most dont do Octane as its a high end publication:unsure:. WH Smiths only had 1 on their shelves...so perhaps someone else who has a larger WH Smith near to them can assist in finding you 3 copies

Good luck;)

Be nice if they did an article on a Z432 replica, ZG and Skyline........no ?;) And did you get their permission to scan and post up the article ?

Paul Hardiman - that reminds me - where is THAT book ?

Fantastic article and great pictures, although I do think the muddy ones taken at Chatsworth recently are more in-keeping with the cars purpose. Well done Kevin for getting it dirty again.

This car means a lot to me because I saw it in action on that memorable 71 RAC. The picture shows me aged 19 in the Lake District between stages - I'm the short one and yes I had hair in those days!

I assume the car in the article emerging from the garage is Kevin's car as he first saw it?

Well, you can't expect a mag like Octane to cover a replica 432-R can you? Er, hang on a minute.........

All three cars were covered in Nostalgic Hero magazine a couple of years back now ( the 240ZG twice ), and the KPGC10 had that recent article in Classic & Sports Car as you will remember. Can't expect too much more than that really. They'll need to leave it another four or five years before any more old Nissan ( 'Datsun' ) content, whilst they have Jaguars, Astons, MGs and Triumphs in every issue..........

Scans? I have not posted any scans - only ( poor ) photos of the mag taken from a distance. Since I'm trying to publicise the article to those that might find it of interest, I'm hoping that they won't mind. I could also offer the defence of 'Fair Use', as it would be nice if we could get a discussion going on the article and the subject in question.......

Rob G,
Yes, the sidebar photos are two of the car on the '71 RAC, and one of the car being disinterred from storage in the north east when Kevin bought it.

For effs sake you lot - stop buying all the mags up !

I need three (please) so anyone who can get one for me please speak up and we can patch up together the three.

One is for me, one for Nissan Europe and one to give away as a prize on our French forum. Of course I'll reimburse you all.
