Fitted a solid steering coupler and the car feels defo more go-kart like.

Then I did this to the poor Z ...

And ended up with this ...

Surprisingly healthy looking curves for a smoker!

An AFR plot from a lambda sensor would have been nice otherwise you don't know if your rich or lean
but then I guess it was only a power run.

I did notice that the dyno also caters for Samuri's and has a specific section for them under "ambient data".....steam pressure

What did you do to your Z this week?

Good point mr S! I did ask if she was running rich and he said it was near perfect (but at which part of the rpm eh!?).

Apparently they have seen quite a few Zs of late - they did a 240 with a 280 engine in the last couple of weeks - anyone from here?

Ps. Was running the shell super unleaded for the power run.

I thought CO% has a direct correlation to AFR, no?
http://www.w124-sg.com/2012/04/co-an...ationship.html
suggests it's ok but going rather rich over 4k

That's interesting JB- thanks for sharing! I do smell the richness when giving it the beans with the window down hence why I asked the guy if it was rich.

The things that I find interesting about hat plot were: 1. How close the torque figure is to the rated one, 2. Just how much power the transmission saps, 3. The rapid tail off at 5k RPM.

This one probably wont be a keeper though. I need to make a little money on one to fund my obsession.

I will sort out some pictures but I was in a bit of a rush today so its just pushed to the back of the workshop. First thoughts are good though with no signs of rust, damage or welding. Its a '74 260z so 240 type shell.

A few days late, but here's a Dixie update from last weekend. I had the afternoon with the car and having finally destroyed the pesky propshaft bolt that was impeding progress, I was able to initiate a textbook example of why load levellers are a great tool. They make engine and gearbox removal an easy one-man job with minimal risk of damaging anything. You can match the engine's initial orientation when you undo the mount bolts and then tip the engine back, pull it forward I bit, rinse and repeat until the sump is over the rad support and the end of the gearbox tailshaft is in the engine bay. Then raise and level out the lot before simply wheeling it away from the car.

I then separated the engine and gearbox and stripped peripherals off the engine ready for a more thorough tear down in the future. Now the car is doing and impression of a monster truck due to reduced weight, next job will be diff removal, engine bay strip down and dash and wiring out. I'm targeting totally bare shell by Xmas (given I can't work on it every week). I might swap my cars over though and put the Fairlady Z in the barn for winter and bring the project home to continue work.

Nice work Richie! I'm about to do the same but minus the gearbox.

Tempted to use spring compressors to stop the car lifting when he weight offloads - is that a bad idea?

Why would you bother with spring compressors? To keep the car low so you don't have to lift it so high?

Sounds like a lot of work when it's up and over in no time ... ! Agree though - load levellers are a great thing.
