To summarise the options and a price guide for a 205/50x15", these are the ones I have found:

Federal 595 RS-R £87
Nankang AR-1 £101
Toyo R888R £115
Toyo R888 £129 (225's)
Dunlop DZ03G £140
Maxsport RB5 £85
Kumho V70a £140
Pirelli Trofeo R £222
Nankang NS2R £65 (195 competition compound)

I'm sure there may be others but this is the ones I could find.

The silver car needs to retain it's dailey driver use but I would like to take it on track every now and then. I was tempted to buy some track tyre's to only fit when I intend to go on track but the problem is they will not get used enough and go off before they are worn out.

I do like the aggressive look of the Nankang AR-1 and can get them in 185/60x14" to fit my existing 14x5" steels (which I like the look of).

I thought that you were on 15s ?

245/45x16 begins to tempt me for a track-day tyre....surely a lower profil will help.

The cars are designed to run a bit of profile. you're just adding weight really.

And width mate ! :-)

The cars were designed for the road....and I think I can afford to gain a tadge of weight.

So how do people survive with tyres other than 80 as OEM fitted ?

Some comparison views here :

Perhaps rather subjective....?

Here's a good video that highlights the difference between a full on track day tyre and a more road/occasional track tyre. Nothing wrong with the Ad08's though, but you see the point.

I'm running 14x5" on the silver car which is the one I'm looking at tyre options for. For the blue car I will stick with R888r's as I'm used to them.

RH driver is red-lining the car whereas the LH driver...isn't !

Here's another one showing the Nankangs better than the Toyos you previously praised.....

Oh come on.
We're comparing full on track day tyres against the more road worthy alternatives, ie the Ns2,RSR,Ad08's etc. The new kid on the block Ar1's do indeed look superb, so buy some.
I doubt you'll get them in your size though.

There lies the problem - I probably would buy some (even though they are cheaper and my pet-race engineer said you get what you paid for....) so unless I fit 17 or 18 wheels or happy to run 185s, I'm fooked - is that it ?

There we go then. Stump up for the 888's and be done with it.
