I never locked mine - preferred that they avoid breaking the glass.

Do you need to buy the Dan Tracker app separately for this one as it's usually another £10, but can't see if they give you a license or not for it.

Sadly, if a pro really wants your car they'll get it unless you can lock it inside Fort Knox. Alarms might attract attention but to be honest I think most people ignore them. I think the most you can hope for is to slow down the opportunist and often that means doing things they don't expect or can't see from outside the car. A steering wheel lock will put off some scrotes but if they can't start it or you can physically make it bloody difficult to tow away you're more likely to win. Ultimately, a good insurance policy is a MUST!

Some chancer has been doing garages over around my area, bending out the doors and nicking the car. So as my garage faces into the street I fitted one of these little beauties. Pole locked with a padlock, just unlock and lift out. Piece of mind if nothing else.

Still kinda advertises that there's something worth nicking inside though - I have mixed feelings.

I share this sentiment, the more security you put on the display the more you advertise there is something worth hiding imo....

You can't win either way

Car Security

I clamp mine in the garage and have door and motion alarm sensors + a cctv camera above the door pointing at the entrance of the driveway + electrically immobilised but leave the doors all unlocked. Am I just a tad paranoid!?

One hopes the camera is a deterrent to the opportunist and the wheel clamp a pain in the neck while the alarm is going off waking everyone up. I have considered a smoke generator too (like the Toad alarms of the 90s) for good measure oh and also adding strobe lights for the full disco effect

But if they want your car, they will have it. My next door neighbour had his Defender stolen off the driveway at 22:00 on a Saturday eve. 5 very thick necked / muscled / shaved headed gentlemen walked up to the house with torches and brazenly took care of it calmly for 5-10 mins while their other friends waited in 2 other cars. Now who would be brave enough to challenge them!? :s

Given they closed down our police station and the nearest one is 20 mins away at Vmax, our affluent sleepy Surrey town is regularly being targeted by Croydon gangs as easy pickings according to the Police!

I've started to lock the car when its left in the street and I'm also trying to get in the habit of not leaving the key in the ignition.

That was my cousin Simon - he's burly and thick-necked and lives near Croydon (Wallington).
