Sadly when our second car got swiped by an unknown truck while parked on a public road, I merely asked the insurance company what the options were and before I knew it Admiral wrote the car off and then all my insurances including the Z went up. No claims protection's kinda is a joke when the insurance goes up 50%!!

They auctioned the car and guess what, its back on the road.

So I'm with Wyn on this one!

When I wrote a car off a few years ago, they paid out the value and gave me the option of buying the car back for 10% of the write off value. I've got that agreed in writing on my current cover. Once I got the car back on the road I lost my no claims but it only added 250 for the year to the insurance. In the end I made a profit as the cost of works on the car were no where near its write off value. I know not every case is the same, but wyn must have spent thousands getting this back on the road - the insurance won't have jumped that high if he had claimed.
