They forgot to include the tub of Vaseline!!!!

Has something happened to toad tax of late??

300+ for a 1.8T Quattro A4 seems rather excessive I feel, given I pay less for the 2.6 z and a highly polluting emissions scandal riddled 2.0TDI Q5!!!!

Toad Tax

That's the same as my diesel X Trail and 200 cheaper than my 370Z.

Stop moaning.

I bought my mrs a little pug 107 and that's 0 tax per year as well. Only thing is it cost us 1k this year as she didn't renew the FREE car tax and got a fine.

Apparently it never occurred to her that she had to tax it as the tax was free... so it ended being all my fault for not telling her.

In the end we 'compromised' and I paid the fine for her and had to let her adopt a rescue dog to make up for it...

That is truly nuts! It's paper work for the sake of it!

Do historic tax exempt vehicles have to send a piece of paper off too?

It's mad what it costs these days, my last car (Mitsubishi evo x) was 500 a year, wouldnt mind so much but I only used it at weekends and did under 3000 miles a year. Can't wait to get to z finished and registered and pay nothing for a change 😂

Yes, as mentioned, you still have to apply for it each year as normal even though your not paying anything!

All the 'normal' cars in the family, incl my Transit are all on direct debit for the road tax, much easier and no big hit if its a whopper...500 for tax

Yep, my 370Z is in the 500 bracket too. It is a big hit and it does hurt but I just think of it being less than 1.40 a day. That's less than a cup of coffee (not that I buy coffee from those places!)

I agree that it's nuts charging road tax because it isn't at all related to the number of miles done and actual fuel usage or emissions. It would be far better to put tax on the price of fuel as it's fairer.

...Oh wait, there's duty on the price of fuel as well...

Therefore, I just put it into the 'smiles per gallon' category and appreciate the car every day

The later 350's are 500 too. The earlier ones are cheaper.

You can't go historic until January 1st 2018 unfortunately, it can only be done at the start of the year after the car is 40yrs old, mine was in October last year but i had to wait until April, however the rules have now changed to January instead, as from next year.

Just to say, I use mine all year round. But if it's not your daily drive then you can just tax it for the summer months of course.

(sorry about the eggs / granny comment!)

You have to 'tax' your car even if it costs nothing to keep a check on MoT and more importantly insurance. The insurance bit is why you can't transfer tax to a new owner anymore - people were buying taxed cars and not insuring them.
