John, I have had a few cars go by way of CFR and of Oceans...

Have you had dealings with Oceans before????? Those cars went to the Netherlands.

Just wondering if they are any better if you decide that CFR is no way to go in the future.

Ya, progress at last, although CFR are not telling me anything, Kingstown shipping (the UK agent) just sent me an email to say the car has now been allocated a container to go in. No news as to what ship it will then go on but that will come. Expected arrival date is 25/11/16. At the moment the container tracking says it is empty to the shipper so I'm guessing its being loaded. With that arrival date it needs to leave LA pretty soon.

So, the never ending story continues. Car arrived a little while ago..........to the wrong port again and has now been transported to Felixstowe and unloaded. But....I still cant collect it as its on hold from CFR. This is were it gets a little complicated. Rung CFR and they say they have no record of me paying for this container. I have paid for the last container but as CFR didn't get around to invoicing me, I paid the UK agent who should of passed the money on to CFR. Because the car turned out not to be in the container it would appear that the UK agent didn't pass on the money I paid.

I've now left both parties to talk tonight and told them I'm picking the car up tomorrow.

Well, collected the car this morning. Brought the blue car home so the silver one can get worked on in the workshop. I haven't had time to check over the whole of the car but from what I've seen I'm very very happy. It has been painted in the past and most of what you see in the pictures is red primer. There is a bit of surface rust on the roof and a few very small bits of surface rust around the body but that about it. Underside is perfect as is the rear slam panel. Door shuts, wheel well and engine bay are in really nice condition and in their original paint. Cant find any signs of repairs or filler. Air con is complete and even has the belt still connected. Car was last used in '84 and looks to have had an easy life. Battery tray area has no signs of rust and is all in its original paint. Area in front of rad support is clean and in its original paint.

I took a couple of pics but will jetwash the car and take some more over the weekend.

Thanks Huw. It's been a long time coming but the timing is quite good as I'm waiting for parts on the 280z so I can spend a week or so getting this on the road and usable. Another bonus was CFR refunding half the shipping for the hassle.

I've been trying to get the engine running today so too busy for pictures.

Removed the flat tops also got with all the smog ****. Repaired some 240 carbs and fitted them. No fuel to carbs so pump need s changing. It wouldn't suck from a petrol can. Good spark and even compression across all cylinders. Around 160psi. Going to have to remove the ac pump and bracket just to get to the fuel pump. May connect up and electric pump for the time being.

Easy start is a good suggestion but I'm guessing the cost of running the car on it would be poor . I'd sooner use petrol and get the engine running properly.

A long day today but made some progress. The trouble with a car that has sat for so long is that everything need s fixing before it will work.

Started with the fuel pump. As said, I had to remove the AC pump and bracket to get to it and what a poxy job that was. Finally swapped the fuel pump far a spare and it started sucking from the tank. Engine started on a few cylinders then I notice a load of fuel coming from the rear float chamber. Suspecting float stuck I took the lid off and found no float in there. Swapped out the whole chamber for a spare I had and fired it up again. Ticked over now but still run **** so started fixing air leaks in the balance pipe. I had to use the US one to get the linkage to work so there were several holes to block up. This improved the running but still not good. Played around with the carbs a an hour or so with no real improvement so moved on to other things. with it now running I thought I'd try and drive it out the workshop. Clutch pedal went straight to the floor with no resistance. Checked the master cylinder and no fluid. Topped it up and released the slave bleed nipple. Connected my pressure bleeder and put 15psi on the master cylinder and nothing out the bleed nipple. Disconnected the pipe out the master cylinder and still nothing. Oh ****!, time to disconnect the pedal and remove the cylinder. I hate this job. The piston in the cylinder was stuck solid. Filled the end with WD40 and went next door for a cup of tea. Came back and hit the piston with a big hammer which got it moving. Held my finger over the outlet and it seamed to produce good pressure so back on the car it went. Clutch now worked so moved the car out and back in the garage. Getting there. No I'd better get it to stop. Master cylinder empty, toped up and still not pumping so off with it. Again, stuck solid so bit of release fluid, short break, then hit with the hammer again. First piston came out after a big whack but the second took a few hit and lots of fluid but eventually both out. Bores looked good so cleaned it all up and back it went. Fronts bleed fine but the backs seem to just be drinking fluid. I'll look at those another day. Dark now so moved the car outside to go through the electrics. Lights started working after a fare bit of playing with the switch and all appear OK apart from high beam not switching over. Indicator and hazards worked fine. Wiper's good. Choke light OK along with the annoying seat belt buzzer. Cant be far from MOT time.
