Small update

The car is now at the bodyshop, I am at Silverstone this weekend in the GTR, so wont be able to make it down, but will be down next weekend. Will take some photos then

Have ordered some new bumpers, arch flares and fender mirrors.... so far, only the mirrors have arrived however I only ordered the bumpers and flares late last week

Speaking to customCages and SafetyDevices about cages for the car.

Since it will be in pieces, what else is worth doing??

Suspension? Recommendations please....
Brakes are currently Hilux brakes - may be going for new discs and pads

Suspensions...GAZ, GAZ, GAZ...tried tested and british

Hilux brakes should be plenty for a 200bhp L series even with occasional track use...massive brakes are just a **** factor if you don't have the power under the hood

All IMHO

I'd change the brakes as there's Better options that don't add 300kg to the rotating mass.

Agreed the Hilux brakes are heavy and add to unsprung weight. I would love to hear real life experience of someone who swapped Hilux units to say wilwood and whether they noticed a difference in the feel of the brakes being "lighter in weight" assuming overalls wheel diameter hasn't changed

Same discussion arises in datsun circles where the 280zx brake set up is an excellent upgrade but heavier to aftermarket brake set ups which cost a lot more . The guys who run these on track cars have proved they are effective yet you always get the noise being made that they are heavy etc etc..

Don't worry too much about the weight of the brakes on a track, the biggest issue if they work well will be heat dissipation so they need to be big to put it in basic terms. I fitted a Wilwood conversion from D Jarman, used them twice and sold the car. The discs were so much meatier than the Pug ones I had and were a huge improvement. 15" wheels needed.

At first you will be fine though, I managed for years until me and the lads got quicker and hungry for laps.

Shell - just cut the rust out and make sure the anti-roll bar mounting areas are fine and the front 'beefed-up'.

I have just been informed that work has started on the 240z

I have decided against the rollcage for now and the main reason for this was that the missus drove the GTR around Silverstone GP circuit on a recent track day and now wants a track car (more on this later)..... so the 240z is purely for pleasure and fun!!!!

I have ordered some fender mirrors, bumpers and arch flares and now looking at wheels... Rota RKR is the style I want, but completely lost on the sizes and offsets (especially with the flares).

Sorry to say Graham that your car has rust in all the usual places but thanks for posting the pics which are both interesting and educational. The good thing is that I think you have the wherewithal to sort it and by then you will have 'bonded' with it. Sunroof?
