piston heads santapod day

Now some of you may know that we went to the pod today with piston heads sunday service, didn't know what to expect but was looking forward to a good day, arrived about 1/2 9 and racing had already begun so signed on and had a go first run wasn't bad seeing as though i hadnt been for 18 months got a 11,59 at 128.45 mph with a 1.9 60 foot it was quite cold and the track seemed quite slippery as traction was an issue as the day proceeded. As some of you may have noticed i had done some aero mods this week and now i have had time to digest the day my terminal is up 2 and 1/2 MPH with no engine mods from 127.3 to 129.93 despite track preparation was at an all time low and they kept sprinkling some sort of yellow stuff down at the start line, there was more grip just after the burn out grid, i was about to stop doing any more runs when Matt let me know they had just glued and prepped the right hand lane for a 200 mph motorcycle so done one last run number 7 where i just managed to get a 129.93 (130 really) and 11.5353 and was able to stay in fourth gear at 8500 rpm i have just done some calculations and i am question my self about what ratio diff i have, i thought i had a 3.7 but when i put the bmw gear ratio calculator in i think i may have a 3.54 so off with the dif cover very soon

Forgot to mention, I broke my car on the first run. Thought I'd start with a gentle first run so turned the boost to the lowest setting then a cv exploded as I started a burnout. I've not had a chance to have a good look underneath but I can see the shaft is nolonger inside the cv housing. It may be time for another upgrade.

Anyway, I got to drive Terry's zed home while mine made the journey on his trailer.

11.5 secs or so, is an impressive time - my best (in a non Z car) at 12.5 secs beating a Skyline I thought was quick. I too thought that Santa Pod was slippier compared to a run I did at Long Marston. I had to deflate the rear tyres to 12 psi to get any real traction. Good effort sir!

It was good to see you chaps. I thought it was a great day out. Sunny, not many people and near home 😀
I didn't do any better after you guys left. I developed a serious pogoing on launch which killed my runs. It was so violent I thought something was broken.
I need to investigate.
And maybe swap the 3.36 for the 3.7.

Anyway- 13.28 is ok for first time out.

Those times show great promise Jon. Especially as your running a 3.3. 3.7 or 3.9 will certainly improve the acceleration and get you in the 12's. Looks like the engine build was a success. Pogoing may be a damper not performing at its best.

Terry. When I drove your car home it did appear to be overgeared and being supercharged, would benefit from lower gearing but this will have an adverse effect on traction.

Just checked out my diary and there's a RWYB next Saturday and sunday. I'll probably go back for another go. Depending on what I find when I come and look at the car this afternoon.
