A Saturday afternoon car spotting in Alderley Edge

A typical better weather day in Alderley Edge, Cheshire (about ten mins from where I live). All the toys come out to play. The money shot however is at 9:15...

It's all a bit 'sad' to be honest and many of the cars are really ugly. I think the attraction to them by the young kids says it all - childish attention seeking.

That was what happens on a relatively nice weekend day in Alderley Edge. It's like a rolling supercar show. Having live around this part of Cheshire (the so-called "Golden Triangle") for nearly a decade, I got over being excited about seeing Ferraris and Lambos years ago! Although seeing a Veyron on the A34 bypass within two motorcycle outriders following it did raise an eyebrow.

I would somewhat agree with Rob - it is undoubtedly childish look-at-me behaviour, especially from the supercar brigade with their identi-kit Ferrari 458/488/Californias/etc. Just proving they have massive wallets and miniscule imagination/originality. But everyone else with anything remotely interesting tends to do it to massage our egos too! I've seen some very cool stuff rather than just the typical footballer/celeb/narcissist cars. E.g. various examples of 60s and 70s American muscle, including the odd GT500 Eleanor, lots of rare classics from all over.

My favourite car I saw locally last year was in Wilmslow, just pulling out of someone's gates - a black Ferrrari Daytona Spyder. Stunning.

The Z does, no doubt, elicit a bigger reaction than the supercars very often. People see new Ferraris/Lambos etc. every week. They may have never seen a Z before.

Sean, I've never been a poser as you know so I can't understand it. Also I would be rubbish at it, and I'm certainly not macho.

I judge a car/owner by what it does and how it's driven. To be cruising along a high street and parking in hotels/pubs is easy and to be honest disrespectful to people who can't afford those luxuries.

Also those cars will have been bought like that i.e. not restored/modified by the owner so what input have they had apart from the cash?

Ok general statements I know.

I admire people like Johnny Palmer - built a nice looking 'rocket-ship' in his garage and uses it to good effect. I can't imagine him cruising in an 'off the shelf' Lambo. Strange really for an Essex lad.

IMHO Nothing wrong and disrespectful with cruising along a high street and parking in hotels/pubs as these may well be the only place that a lot of people could see them

I also became blasé about seeing 'exotica on the London streets back in the yippie days -all Testarossa and black 911s !

Agreed about the Z but apply that to any tastefull done classic - they stand out now !

.
I bet it did! The only vehicles you get to see in Bristol with motorcycle outriders are the prison vans going to the Magistrate courts.
